Who will win the candidates and who will win the WC

Apparently Alireza played 250 hyperbullet games vs Naroditsky the night before playing Nepo...

Nep surelly wins the Candidates, but nobody knows if Magnus gonna play the WC. In that case, the WC be Nepo vs Liren.

The thing with Alireza is not a  big deal, hes very young, have a long career yet. Surelly gonna win in prox. years

Tomorrow is the most important game of 2 players lives....  Ding has white against Nakamura.  It's the biggest game ever for both of them.  Given the uncertainty of whether Magnus will play a match against Nepo again, 2nd place means a lot. If Ding wins he finishes 2nd. If the game is drawn Naka finishes 2nd. So Naka has draw odds.

How about that tension?

It's too bad that draw odds at that level is such a huge advantage... but yeah, it remains an exciting round even though 1st place is already decided.

I think nepo

One thing I hadn't thought of...

If Carlsen and Nepo have another match, maybe Ian's mindset will be much better from the standpoint that it wouldn't be possible to embarrass himself any more than he already has... and maybe with that pressure off, he'd be able to relax and do his best.

Plus if Carlsen does play, we can guess he wont enjoy it... so Nepo should have better chances than last time, maybe even much better (if there is a rematch).

Thats why Ive been looking forward to their rematch. Its clear that Nepo is a dangerous challenger if he can keep his calm. Now with more experience under his belt hes much more likely to perform on his level and anything can happen.

I think IF, a big IF, Carlsen and Nepo play another match that The Magster will win again but the score will be much closer. I think when Nepo got his 2nd loss in that match he kind of went into "aw just fuggit all" mode and maybe didn't completely quit but definitely stopped trying hard. That won't happen again.

Imagine a Nepo vs Naka match though.  That'd be something to see.

I've heard Magnus Carlsen wanted to play Alireza in the World Championships. Guess he'll have to play Nepo again 😜

I'm sorry. Back in my time you wouldn't see men in shorts in Spain.

Tourists!

Oof,  Ding is winning against Naka at the 44th move. By about +3.58 based on chess24's engine.

It's looking like Ding will finish 2nd.

Tights?

Naka has fans and haters, some wanted him to do well, and some didn't, and that's fine.

But I was one of those wanting him to fail. Glad there's zero chance of him playing in a WC match.

He did extremely well and proved he belongs in the top 10, all while pursuing a streaming career. Very impressive and good for him and all that... but yeah, personally I'm glad he finished lower than 2nd tongue.png

I'm betting Carlsen will play. Though he won't be thrilled about it.

He'd much rather play against Ding, instead.

He's using the uncertainty as a negotiating tool. Surely he wants more money but also he's currently negotiating with fide for some changes. I'm unsure of what he wants to change but it's been said by fide.

Maybe he was inspired by Fischer.

First to 10 wins! No cameras! Double the prize money! And Nepo has to wear a bag over his head while playing because Carlsen finds his face annoying!
