Alekhine is one of only a few world champions that has a life time result better than 70% and he isn't on your list ?!  He was also Russian which make his omission by you eve more strange. Wink

I'd like to think, not that Fischer puke.

Kazakhstani_boy

Sorry, I simply forgot about Alekhine. I think he is number 5 or 6

Topalov has inumerous wins on Kasparov. He is by far the best player nowadays..smashed Kramnik as if it was nothing.Topalov and Cheparinov make a powerfull team

Why did Anand beat him in the 2010 World Championships and why is Magnus Carlsen the number 1 player in the world? If Topalov is, as you say, "by far the best player" why isn't he the reigning champion? Why isn't he number 1 in the World? And why is he threatening to pull out of the canidates tournament?  He is a great player, but by far the best? NO!!!

Kasparov

MrDurdan

At 13, he won a brilliancy that became known as the Game of the Century. Starting at age 14, he played in eight United States Championships, winning each by at least a point. At 15½, he became both the youngest Grandmaster and the youngest Candidate for the World Championship up until that time. He won the 1963–64 US championship 11–0, the only perfect score in the history of the tournament. In the early 1970s he became the most dominant player in modern history—winning the 1970 Interzonal by a record 3½-point margin and winning 20 consecutive games, including two unprecedented 6–0 sweeps in the Candidates Matches. According to research by Jeff Sonas, in 1971 Fischer had separated himself from the rest of the world by a larger margin of playing skill than any player since the 1870s

Lesser World Champions:

Steinitz, Euwe,Smyslov, Tal, Petrosian, Spassky, Fischer....

Greater World Champions:

Lasker,Capablanca,Alekhine,Botvinnik,Karpov,Kasparov

(Lost track of the later ones)

just to add a little bit of controversy to the pot...Don't get me wrong, Fischer was the chess god for many of us, but the others had longevity and in the case of Alekhine and Botvinnik they regained the title after losing it. All the "greater" champions played multiple championship matches

for me my fav is Fischer...but  he left  the game before he could prove he was more  than  a one trick pony...in  my  heart i think if he  would  have  stayed Kasporov would not have been the 30 year monster he was in the chess world...so with  sadness in my heart here is my list  with  no offence to  all the great  ones       1.Kasporov 2.Karpov 3.Capablanca 4.Fischer 5.Alekhine

This has got to be one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I laughed so hard I thought I was going to burst a blood vessel in my brain. A much needed experience after a rather tough day.
