Probably as simple as you playing more games, therefore the rating system is more confident that your rating is nearly correct. I'm sure the article does a better job of explaining it; I'll go get it...

Hello there! I have just recently started playing chess, and so has a friend. I sometimes help my friend with learning the game (not just how pieces move, but how to not blunder every piece) and I've noticed that he has much higher stakes.
For example, when I play with someone my level, I can win 8, draw and get nothing, or lose and lose 8. However, he gets 25, draws and gets nothing, and loses and loses 25. We have very similar ratings. What is the reason for this?
And I apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong place, like I said, I'm very knew to these things!
