Possibly because you've played 14 games and been a member for a day. I've played a few thousand in total and I'm still pretty bad. Inb4 fake accounts.

Just play lots of games and do tactics trainer. I've been here less than a year and have improved quite a bit, I think.

Being bad at chess (at a given point in time) does not make you dumb! Conversely, being good at chess does not make someone a genius. It only means they're good at chess.

The great thing about chess, is that you can improve if you want, and that is a very enjoyable aspect of the game. Who knows--you might suddenly discover you have a natural gift for chess. Perhaps your talent is hidden behind a bad habit, or a basic lack of understanding.

Old Chess Dog has said what I was going to say... only better. LOL

Strong chess players are not super-geniuses.  They have some particular mental abilities, such as good memory and strong pattern recognition, as well as the ability to visualize and to concentrate.  And they have put in alot of study and play time.  But they are no more likely to cure cancer or write a great novel than the next fellow.

At the same time, someone who is scoring poorly at chess is not necessarily "dumb".  They probably just don't understand what is going on (yet) and have not practiced tactics.

The great thing about chess is that even someone with mediocre at best level of talent (like me) can learn enough about the game to appreciate it and enjoy it .

I've only been a member since January and I am actually better in physical chess than chess.com chess.
