Yep. You can refute or look up any opening in the books.  Endgames and middlegames require much more precision.

It's simple. In the USSR there were good children's chess schools, where the most talented players were selected

All the strong players learned to play since early childhood. Alas! Adult player can not make great progress. He will often be mistaken
