I don't understand people whose ego is so heavily invested in the game that they can't accept the fact of a loss and move on. In my opinion, they lack maturity.

I find it excruciatingly irritating when someone wins and then offers a rematch unless we agreed to play some games beforehand. I hate it when they send it more than once. And don’t expect people to do it. No one owes you anything

I don't think it makes much difference. You get as many matches as White and Black in the long run. If you think a player played an interesting game and there's more you'd like to see from them, you can add them as a friend then watch their matches and challenge them in the future. Alternatively, if you're looking for immediate revenge there's no etiquette which compels them to oblige.

Chess.com could add a best of 3, 5, 7 etc search option, but I doubt many people would use it due to the length of the commitment. It's nice to be able to play matches one by one until you want to stop. I think that's what most users are here for.

Because I wanna analyse the game.

I decline a rematch if the opponent lost against and his performance was way below my expectations

Probably because of the unknown. People are scared of what they don't know. If someone accepts a rematch, there could be an unfamiliar opening. They could make a sacrifice. There could be tactics or strategies that are surprising. So many unknowns. Why take the chance. It's better to avoid all those scary scenarios and not accept the rematch.

It's my understanding that the incidence of cheating is considerably higher during rematches.

He might beat me... but let's see him beat my engine!

I don't understand people who try to understand other people on the basis of rematches, after implying it's fear and then suggesting lack of sportsmanship. Guess these people don't understand themselves either.

This.  And I am usually reviewing the game immediately afterwards.  And you get no trophies for rematches.  Basically, there is no incentive to play a rematch against a random opponent.

You need to show you're not scared, have sportsmanship and allow yourself to be understood by anonymous random players on a chess site. The site should give out a trophy for this. And a flair.

I do not NEED to do anything.  I do not owe a random stranger another game if I do not want it.

You may want to read the TOS before you make such a claim.

1. Nobody owes you a rematch 2. They could be done with their last game of the session 3. They may want to keep playing new oponents to face new challenges and playing styles 4. They crushed you so easily that you weren't worth the elo they gained, so they want to fight someone else

Then you're a coward without sportsmanship.  Chess is a sport and you could have been an athlete but you gave it all up.

It's hot here. Where's my ac?
