Why are speedruns even allowed?

You obviously don’t like the site, from what I’ve read at least, so just leave and go to a different site. Stop being a baby about it. You paid money? Too bad, that was your choice. You don’t wanna have this conversation anymore? Just stop talking here. Go to a different site for all I care lmao.

same could be said of you, right?

No...because I like the site and the people on it? And I *just* joined this conversation and haven’t been arguing for days?

to put it more succinctly: You’re complaining about someone complaining.

I’m talking here because I’m bored and this conversation is entertaining, as well as the added bonus of a 2% chance we can convince coolout that speedrunning is okay. I don’t have a problem with him because people are allowed to have different opinions, I’m just stating my opinion on the matter, which is that if coolout doesn’t like chess.com, just leave.

Snowball's chance in hell might be 2%, no way odds are as good for you😂 He's already burning his chess books and DGT board

By the way, CooloutAC, the OTB scene has none of the speedrunning problems that online chess has to deal with, and if you really want to be competitive, you need to play OTB at some point. People at tournaments are much nicer and more polite than the scum you typically see online.

I don't think you have enough information about me to be able to judge my sports sense. Except that I don't give a sh## about speedrunners, cheaters etc., simply because their effect on my person is negligible and I'm not here to judge and save the world. I'm here to learn, play and improve my chess, which is perfectly possible, believe it or not, for you as well.

Don't know what wish you're talking about, I didn't get any.

Again, this comment proves you don't have any.  And I find that fkn disgusting.

Also, it’s a bit rude to insult someone just because of an opinion. Yes, you think speedrunning is bad and we think it’s okay, no need for the insults. Not including fake coolout, his actions are inexcusable.

I love (but also hate) how this argument just descended into ad hominem lol

sndeww

People tend to do that when they run out of options.

The guy seems like someone who wanted to learn to play chess, ran into some troubles, possibly even had a crushing experience with a streamer since he points them and speedruns as a root of all evil ( kind of omitting regular cheaters, who will always cheat regardless) and now he simply refuses to accept reality and the fact all he needs to do is work on his own chess. Like you explained it to him very rationally and nicely. Many people tried talking to him here in a very reasonable manner, with no insults or personal attacks, even I did, although I didn't last long. Now I'm almost sorry when he says he gives up, but I think there's no helping someone with a mindset like his, not on an internet forum anyway.

Why? Aren't they basically smurfing and making multiple accounts? Plus, they have the same effect which smurfing does. It messes up the rating pools.

I got muted and my internet knocked offline for an hour saying this very same thing.   The problem that this streamers are allowed to do this is the fact they are making it fashionable and thousands are probably doing the same thing because of them.    Its especially noticable for below 800 low rated players like myself.   The ratings seem to be pointless.

Dude... the ratings are extremely accurate. If you think some high level speedruns affect you, you are delusional. They don't have any affect at all, even if they did... it would be very brief. If someone unfairly loses some rating and they are lower than they deserved to be... then they will gain more for wins and lose less for losses.

Focus on improving your play, stop spending energy on nonsense.

If you go by ratings alone why would there be a difference of 550 points between sites?  Why a difference betwewen fide?  Ratings are meaningless, its all about having competitive matches.   If anything the difference might indicate a major hurdle for new players on chess.com.  And what could be the cause of that?     Chess.com and streamers themselves already know it to have an ill affect and be disrespectful so usually they don't start from 400 anymore,  they start from 1200.   But even then it should not be something that is allowed.   Its not just about the streamers,  its about them making such a mockery of the sport fashionable among everyone who wants to imitate them.

if ratings are meaningless why do they exist? so that the rating system on chess.com can put you up against opponents of your own skill (unless your me and have a low rating but can defeat the 1000-1500 bots every time :/) and so you can actually advance in the chess world and know you are getting better by laying people of your skill level, don't complain because you are just bad at chess and slowly improving, as many people have said the speedruns don't matter if u win a few matches after that and get your rating back and even if u dont its not cause its speedrunners or smurfers as most of the alt accounts on this site are deleted according to tos after being opened, smurfers get punished as well as speedrunners (as pointed out earlier someone got banned for too many speedrunning accounts) and this other site stuff ur going off of, site have different players some people dont know chess.com exist and some didn't know about the other site its a variety in players and rating system (and as someone else said any middle schooler knows multiple variables in an experiment is going to lead to a failed experiment) deal with the fact you aren't good at chess and you'll be a lot happier on this site rather than complaining about smurfers/speedrunners/alt accounts. you sound like a call of duty lobby at 2AM.

chess is supposed to be a game of fun and sportsmanship not complaining about your rating being too low or arguing about your opponent being better than you, just accept it and move on.

I don't even care anymore.  I'm not gonna last anyways.  I feel like taking the book i bought and my DGT board and burning it in a bonfire in my backyard.

Probably good to do it soon, you seem like a quitter anyway. Or you could just enjoy the game and stop looking for excuses.

Ubik42
Coolout: There is a speed runner? Ima quit playing chess!

Ubik42: A speed runner? Cool maybe I can learn something. Wow, the Czech Pirc can be a lot trickier than I thought!

Look at all the excuses and deflection from the fact speedruns are dishonest.   This forum is a microcosm of the community.  A cesspool.

Read a book dude, you sound like you haven't ever.

I don't like speedruns either mate, but I don't think it impacts the rating pool negatively at all...

nTzT

Dude, how about this:

Stop acting like a victim.
Enjoy the game.
Chill out.

Ubik42
Being a public victim is just too much fun for some I guess. Now we are even burning books. That is quite a lot of drama. I hope it wasn’t a book on kindle.
Ubik42
And now we are the victims and not Coolout. Wow lol.
Ubik42
And here I thought the stereotype of a chess player was a beautiful orphan girl hooked on green pills and beating champion players in a janitor’s basement.
fluffytitbabbler

Boy, you need a break from this site. Why not just set up your DGT board, start reading the book and give it a week or a month offline. You can still burn them after

Ubik42
I’ll just tell you this coolout since I finally looked at your games. Don’t play any blitz. Play daily or rapid. Blitz will only hurt you at this level.

You have to slow down enough to avoid blunders.
fluffytitbabbler

You're funny, no one wants you to quit chess. I'm assuming you have DGT Centaur, don't know what rating you had it set to, the lowest is 300 apparently. If you set it higher, than go from 300, there's no way anyone wouldn't beat stockfish on 300 if you give it a go, learn some principles and fundamentals. I looked up some of your games, you play as good or bad, just like anyone who started chess a few weeks ago. If you work on paying attention, stop blundering and taking opponents free pieces, you'll start enjoying the game a lot better.

Seriously, watch chessbrah's Aman Hambleton Building Habits series. It's not a typical speedrun, he plays with low rated players on a level he thinks that elo plays, but with good principles and fundamentals. Also makes typical mistakes, but without blundering. There's a lot to learn, the guy is the complete opposite of streamers like Hikaru, he's respectful and fun to watch.

give it a go

it’s not that it is poor sportsmanship, it’s just that it won’t help you improve. It’s why I don’t play bullet, it’s ok if you are Nakamura, but if I just make a bunch of quick moves to flag someone in one minute chess I am not getting better or learning chess.
