@MrMojok  That gentleman was named Josef Israel Zilber, or "Zilba" for short.  He was homeless, and wore many buttons & pins on his clothing.  A former grand master, he beat Tal more than once, the first time in 1952, at age 17 or 18, when Tal was only 14 or 15 !!  You can view his games at:
... BTW:  nobody seems to know if he is still alive.  If he is, then he would be about 84 years old.
With kind regards,  Mark Creek-water Dorazio,  long-time chess-enthusiast,  Phoenix

@Weevil99  and  @Chakana-Moritz   Hi guys:  I found a video of a game by John Poe, who had a bit-part in "Searching For Bobby Fischer."  It's at:  https://www.ask.com/youtube?o=0&l=dir&qo=serpSearchTopBox&q=john+poe+chess

BTW:  he was, and probably still is, one of the strongest players in Washington Square Park.

Enjoy ...

Hey I remember that guy in the movie. Wasn’t he the one the kid (Josh) went to play against because he was looking for a stronger opponent? Anyway, there are guys in prison even who will beat the pants off most players at chess.com

No, Jerry was the guy who told everybody to "put it out, here comes Josh".  They were passing around a joint at the time.
