I just saw it. It isnt a puzzle. Its just series of moves that led to a checkmate which wasnt forced.

Womens primary objective in life (as evidence by evolutionary biology) is passing on her genes to next generation. Most of womens hobbies, from fashion, makeup, beauty, shopping, etc are designed to promote this goal of attracting a "high value" male to procreate with. By high value I mean a man who is rich, tall, strong, and show other signs of being superior Dna, -Therefore women are less likely to naturallly have hobbies like chess that will not introduce her to high value males.

Sounds like Nazi-era eugenics to me.   Breed out inferior genes.   Margaret Sanger would be proud of you.

that's what women's role is in terms of reproduction though, select only the best possible men. It's an important role too

thats an ad hominem argument, next time try to prove your existence of having a brain

An intrest, and more importantly an aptitude, for chess usually has a correlation with strong abstract thinking skills. This is something that is more commonly seen in men than women. There's always exceptions, but as a generalization, I believe this holds true. It's probably the same reason that far more men gravitate towards philosophy.

You seem to have a little knowledge of human evolutionary biology and human evolutionary psychology. And if "a little knowledge is dangerous," you might be the most dangerous person on the site.

80% of the players i play against over the board (non competitive) are females, but its true there arent that many female competitive players because chess was a game for smart gentlemen for several centuries, it was simply not suitable/ladylike to play chess as a woman, BUT thats changing which is very good for chess and its community BUT people should really stop complaining after they lost against a woman thats simply sexist nothing else.

But i also asked some of the women i play chess against why they dont play online every single one said online players are so toxic against females so they don't want to play against those kind of players

True!  Though the OP likely meant "fewer."

I am 180 cm tall (5' 11")

I'm 5' 10½"

alot of tall women are insecure about their height, and you bringing it up in an unrelated conversation only proves my point.

I only proves you're slow on the draw, cowboy.

Everyone is an individual. some men like games such as chess, some don't. Some women do, some don't. But whether they do or don't, it's all for their individual reasons.  It has nothing to do with hunting/gathering, brain weight,  or any innate preconditioning or genetic difference.  If anything it has more to do with environment (see Polgars), societal conditions, and personal situations.

Do you ANY empirical evidence to support that conclusion?

NotesFromUnderdog
Because fewer women play. Why don’t men who ask this question ever look to Occam’s razor for the answer?

Using the Polgar sisters as an example is a bit misleading because their father, much like the father of the Williams sisters, specially trained the daughters from a young age to excel at an activity. It's debatable whether either Judit or Serena would have ever become interested in their chosen career paths if it wasn't for their fathers encouraging them to pursue it as young girls. Obviously they were born with a certain kind of potential to be great at chess or tennis, but the question is the classic nature vs nurture debate - how much of their success is innate talent and how much is dependent on their fathers perhaps recognizing their talent and pushing them in the right direction?

You can't "answer" a question by simply rephrasing it. The dude asked WHY fewer women play chess, and all you said was repeating his line that fewer women are interested.

Again, if you were aware of psychology you would know that this nature-nurture debate is going on for a long time. You cannot ignore the role of either of them.  We just "KNOW" that men have way more obsessive tendencies and are more naturally attracted towards competition since it best serves their obsessive behaviour. We don't know "WHY" that happens but men regularly show more obsessive behavior for some reason. It's just natural

HighEldar

Because men are more interested in mating.

Brian is a bit of a jerk, but I agree with looking at behavior though the lens of evolutionary biology.

It doesn't mean individuals don't have choices, or that we're little more than animals, but when talking about the average behaviors of large populations it makes sense.

Women don't choose chess because, as a group, chess less interesting to them than it is to men, as a group.

It doesn't mean men are smarter or women are shallow, it's just reality.

Haha, that is one of the most pointless articles I've ever read. It only states the obvious, that there are few female chess grandmasters because there are few female chess players. Duh doy. It does nothing to address the issue of why there are few female chess players, which is what we really need to know. And to think I used to subscribe to Discover magazine.
