Thanks, Henry. I really hope someone does have some advice on how not to be distracted while playing.

A long time ago, while playing in an OTB chess tourney, I heard what sounded like someone having gas in the near distance. A short time later, it was confirmed by my nose someone had cut the cheese. I was determined not to be distracted as the other players looked at each other, saying it wasn't me in self-defense. Just then, my stomach grumbled for no reason (nerves, I guess); everyone looked at me as if I were the culprit from the previous noxious odor, causing much agitation among the players. My stomach growled again, and this time my opponent looked at me like, don't you dare have any unseen accidents? I then blundered, allowing my opponent to fork my Queen and rook. This was an actual event, and I wondered how I should have handled this incident, keeping out the external distractions and staying focused on the game instead. Anyone can comment on how to stay focused while playing and avoid mistakes.
