Why are women so bad at chess?

It may be that teenage boys are more inclined to "play"  and remain boys for a while when girls the same age are ready to rock and roll and have other "things"  to do other than staying behind their computer playing chess. There is a bigger world out there.

It may be also that playing chess was from day one a male stuff. But as said someone here, when women play seriously, they can really play at the top.

well, maybe it's just that women are not THAT interested in chess then. And the male/female brains are wired differently. It's still an interesting subject.

still, in balente's defense, not many dinosaurs were anti-woman and screamed "feminist", according to science.

My wife and her girlfriends bash men all the time when they get together. Same with me and my friends when we get together. We always laugh at that line from that Jack Nicholson movie where the lady in the elevator asks  how he writes woman so well. "I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability" 

I don't think poking fun at the other sex will ever change, but to say an entire sex is inferior in any way to the other is just wrong. Men can do what woman can do, and woman can do what men can do.

Speaking as someone who is new to the site (just joined yesterday) reading this thread has been enlightening. Is this thread typical of the personalities of the chess playing community as a whole?

no. not at all. this is a troll thread and most of those posting are either trolls trying to provoke a reaction or troglodytes who actually believe their b.s. most of the posters are fairly honest and  thoughtful.

There are a zillion threads on the topic, as soon as it loses interest we probably will see again the wave of threads about Fischer's private life, as a part of a cycle that never ends.

If nothing else, women certainly look better playing 😉

Yeah most of us are just chess fanatics that like to shoot the bull about the game and bounce questions off of one another. You get the odd wise ass but even they can be entertaining at times.  

Why has there never been a great black chess player? Has there ever been a Chinese one? Or are they only indo-European?  Is it to do with intelligence or opportunity?
