It may be that teenage boys are more inclined to "play" Â and remain boys for a while when girls the same age are ready to rock and roll and have other "things" Â to do other than staying behind their computer playing chess. There is a bigger world out there.
It may be also that playing chess was from day one a male stuff. But as said someone here, when women play seriously, they can really play at the top.
