I don't get why I keep getting insulted due to the fact my profile picture is of my much loved pet?

In the endgame, often, you don't have any (or few) minors (often, in my experience) no queens left. Rooks are hugely important in the endgame- so we stick them to the side all useless? Is it a coincidence that so many endgame tactics, chess endgame puzzles and endgame studies contain rooks in them?

Well if my best rating is 1300 in rapid, which is the closest to traditional chess on this site...

And it is just beneath yours.

If we were to play ?....don't worry about endgame rooks. It'll be over by the middlegame....Tongue Out....

Why can't I undouble-move a pawn?
Monie49

If I were on the board I would hang up on you.

Ashvapathi

wow, fantastic idea. Another idea would be for a pawn to move back(one step back... maybe diagonally). Lola, you can invent a new chess variant with these ideas. It would be a lot of fun to play it.

The_Ghostess_Lola

....whatever.

I like the cat.  Rooks go on open files (the experts say).  I have found that you have to know what you're doing if you decide to advance a rook too soon.  On the back rank, they are useful as defenders of pieces sometimes.

Can the Bishops change what color squares they are on ?  i.e. From black squares to white squares and then back again??

OneThousandEightHundred18
I think so, Monie. Only in color exchange variations. It's all in the books

You may wanna go to get one a those black & red checker-chess sets @ Ricochet Toyz & read the basic rules for ages 5-12.

The_Ghostess_Lola

My argument is that all King's & all Rooks can freely move back & forth. So why can't they Uncastle ? I'm fine with a one-time castle. As uncastling would reverse the move & it would be a one-timer move too.

This isn't like the Ash V. Apathia (the V stands for Vollywood) snarky comment about pawns in #629.

It would probably be similar to en passant (another nonlogic-based arbitrary weirdo rule) where it's a one-time bedazzle.

What it all comes down to is that Uncastling a arbitrary no-no w/ very little, if any, substance. Substance that I cannot find reason for.

And isn't chess just that ?....for minds that reason ?

You can uncastle.  I do it all the time against people who don't know how to play.  In general, there is no rule that permits you to do it, which is why it is not permitted --a tautology.  Agree upon uncastling as legal prior to playing or play someone who doesn't know what they're doing, and you can do it.

Would someone please explain SARCASM to The_Ghostess_Lola!

The_Ghostess_Lola

Sarcasm is a perk-fringy only gifted to lead spoolers of this great big sewing machine in which we ply our trade & darn our knee highs & discuss current events & other weird stuff that breaks fingernails as we feverishly go varoom over our little "keyboards of life".

All else will be duly reprimanded by the Clerk of the Court. And you all know who the Clerk is !!

Monie is a exception 'cuz the Clerk realizes that one good sassy tongue deserves one back. Hey....she too believes in justice !

(....and Monie is the name of my favorite cousin....Smile....)

One odd qustion I have is, can I castle on the next move here if I promote my pawn to a rook ?....assume my king hasn't moved....nor has my brand new Rook !

And if so, how would it look ?

Consider this play a Castle & I may not be violating FIDE Rules.

The_Ghostess_Lola

Well, noone said I couldn't castle "vertically". Besides, I have not violated the neither King nor Rook can move prior to castling rule.

So. Where have I violated FIDE Rules. Can someone tell me besides just saying that my brain has gone off the charts ?

****

(#646) also, it's not possible since pawns promote on the opposite side of their color.

Earth to Darth ?....Earth to Darth ?....over ?

(#646) if it were to castle, either the rook had to move or the king would move all the way there, making it impossible to castle since both fall against the rules.

Wrong-O !....again, I can create this without neither King nor newly promoted Rook every having moved.

Do you have something better for us Mr. Vader ?

AussieMatey

You wouldn't be able to castle if Black's King was on b5, because once the White King moves 2 squares, you'd be in check.Smile
