Why chess isn't respected

1. According to you, only blitz & bullet

2. If you are in such hardship, try longer time controls

3. The "cheapos" and "winning on time" are just as valid as checkmating, as per the nature of the game.

A "cheapo" capture is one where the opponent knowingly tried to steal a piece just because you're not paying attention to it.

Like you're playing good moves and winning positionally.. and then they waste 2 tempos playing moves that don't improve thier position, while you're continuing your attack, hoping that you miss an exposed piece.

Improve your board awareness then.

Loose pieces drop off.. Common strategy, maybe protect pieces?

Anything can be improved.. but I'm not a perfect player and I don't expect to have to be one just to play a good and honest game!!

Pardon?? "Steal" a piece? According to the rules your opponent is entitled to capture your pieces as far as I know. Specially if you are bad enough player to blunder it off.

Funny the take some people can have on chess, isn't it?

One blunders, then blames his opponent for taking advantage of it.

Despite the propaganda we may have heard about chess being a gentlemans game with honor and sportsmanship, it's just not true. In the end it is just a long series of brutal punishments for our mistakes.

The winners are the ones who learn their lessons the quickest.

pullin

imo playing chess has to be about using your mind power..

not just memorizing a set of rules.

Those rules supplement and structure the game, and using your mind plays it.

Rules are fun too.. that's why chess is like math. Certain equation's work

Scottrf

The rules get in the way of being able to play brilliant moves!

I see. Because you are not perfect player, uour opponents must be "honest" and not capture pieces you are blundering off in order keep you happy.

yes

Please, pay attention to the message sent by "WSLU" to "shhbz"! It must not be allowed to offend opponents! Bye!

If Chess.com has done nothing else for me, it has introduced me to many countries I never had any idea existed.

Welcome Guernsey to my list of countries I know of(Although I'm not clear from Wikipedia if you are actually a country).

Scottrf

Na Guernsey isn't a country. It's British.

There's no honor in the game.

I've played over 100 opponents who run around the board in 1 min games if they're losing, and believe they've legitmately won if they win on time. They take every win to their name.. if they're up one piece they feel they've won the game.. even if you win on time, but if your up every piece on the board and they run around and win they beat you.. or get one cheapo capture that ruins your attack.

You're playing one minute games and then have a problem that time is a decisive factor?

Play longer games, add an increment... the solution to your problem is within your control.  One minute chess is not far off from a game of hot-potato.

Same old faces in every thread.

The OP should consider the idea that an "honest game" needs at least a 5 second bonus, and start putting that increment into his time controls.

Then reaching the end of the game "one the board," instead of on the clock, will be up to him and his "honor," whether real or imagined.

Simple.

Consistancy is the key.

Indeed, probably less than 200 people account for 90 percent of the posts on this site.

They also fully account for the fallacy of the "Hot Topic."  As evidenced by this current thread.  QED.

Whatever.
