Why Did This Game End b/c of Insufficient Material?

Hi.  I ran out of time here, but the game ended b/c of insufficient material.

Why?  Mind you, I'm not complaining!  ;

Clearly, I had sufficient material, I just ran out of time.  What gives??

It means that your opponent did not have the sufficient material to mate you, because you ran out of time, not him. Therefore, it ended in a draw.

The game didn't end because of insufficient material; the game ended because you ran out of time. Your opponent had insufficient material to win hence the result, a draw.

The OP with Black ran out of time while his opponent had insufficient mating material. Draw.

Thanx, everyone.

I've never encountered the situation before.  It's funny how you can play 100s of games b4 learning a basic rule.

I'm adjusting to the concept... but I see the rationale.  Why should my opponent earn a victory (when he had no chance of winning) simply b/c I ran out of time.

^^^^^^ Ding ding ding ding ding. Exactly. It's a draw. You got why right with:

"Why should my opponent earn a victory (when he had no chance of winning) simply b/c I ran out of time."

Was this comment necessary to bring up an 8 month old thread?  The OP understands what happened.
