I think Caruana is done. Giri looking good for the future 🤔 He could easily be the contender. He has two relatively easy opponents next while Nepo has MVL and Liren.
Why did Wang Hao resign? Suspicious
The problem with a round robin tournament is guys can throw games or quit early. A match play scenario eliminates that.

True but he has a winning record vs Carlsen.
Haha, meaning they've only played a few games, meaning Nepo hasn't been playing in the same tournaments since he wasn't good enough to get invited...
... that just makes it look worse for Nepo.
Maybe so 🤔 But... Carlsen has made comments about not wanting to be the champion. Maybe he wants to go for Botvinnik's record of being world champion 3 different times?

It was a bit easier in those days to lose the title and then challenge the champion again. Now there is a proper Candidates cycle and rules preventing that,

I want to see Nepo vs Carlsen. I think Carlsen wins if he wants to.
I think it might be a draw

the world championships can't be drawn, i'm pretty sure they have tiebreakers. and imo, nepo might actually have some good winning chances
i agree nepo might have good winning chances against carlsen. btw GM sergey karjakin himself stated he thinks GM ian nepo might be the hardest opponent for carlsen to defeat.

Check his bank account, guys!
Check WHO'S bank acount?
I’m sure the world health organization isn’t related to chess

Hm. I don’t think he would conspire with Russians, as he has no reason to. And, maybe he was losing, and that is why he resigned.

yeah....in the position he resigned he was already a pawn down and his g pawn also looked weak...so probably it would be just a matter of time before he was 2 pawns down. I dont think I would want to try to defend that position against a strong player either.
