why do ALOT of superior players talk down to the less skilled?

Baranor has a good point.  Internet posting seems to bring out the best in some people and the worst in others.  I was in Mathematics for a number of years and I've encountered absolutely arrogant people in that field. But also some very nice people who were a lot smarter than me.  So, we all fall short but some crash dive.

peolpe get into the habit of thinking that they are better than people and so they degrade them

1chessking

sometimes, people who degrade other people, are often degraded upon themselves and they feel like if they are being picked on then they should be able to pick on others too.

aadaam

The better players seem to be nicer than the woozles, I think.

Any aggravation I've had has been with feeble players.

everyone is susceptible to this

This sort of academic bigotry and arrogance isn't unique to chess players by any means. Sometimes some people that excel/overachieve at one thing (math, chess, law, medicine, sports, etc) don't seem to have the time or energy left for the most basic social skills or manners and therefore are perceived by others as being rude abrasive assholes; which they indeed are at times. Perhaps it is to compensate for a small penis.

I gotta say I have not encountered one rude person since playing on this site...but then again, if you beat me, do you really have anything to brag about?

farbror

This site mght be an exception! I have been to the club on a few occasions and it was not a pleasant experience.

I can't believe anyone below a Class B rating is allowed to even post on this forum thread!

salamillion

I will call you back when I have a class - right now I do not have class.

That being said - some folks love games and suck at them but value every moment they spend involved in the game and would not give that time up for anything else.  Why does anyone want to hurt those people by being nasty? Beat them at the game.  They are in the game and playing and understand that the result may invove their losing - but no one should expect to be insulted because they lost.

is it just me or has anyone else noticed that SOME of the higher rated chess players on this site seem to have let their rating inflate their ego to the point where they get on live chess and proclaim their chess divinity and proceed to point out to the lower rated players and noobs that they could "own" you all in chess . chess is supposed to be about learning an art form and most of all to have fun. if you cant have fun without putting people down thats sad. you higher rated players should encourage the lower ranked players and the noobs. I am a noob to this site technically. i've won a few and lost a few but each time i played a game win, lose, or draw i alway told my opponent good game. and that's the way it should be. anyone feel free to comment even if it's negative. i can take criticism with a grain assault. it won't hurt my feelings trust me.

because this is chess.com

Radioactive7

Because they know more than you about chess? If you can't take blunt criticism then you will not get better. That's just the truth
