I often wonder why players on this site use avatars and false profiles. It's easy to tell by the way they talk, that in some profiles they are actually males, pretending to be glamorous females. Why all the deception, and what actually is the point of this behaviour?

Ellie poses an interesting question. We have a number of trolls on the site who imitate women and do so to be malicious and mock women.

It is funny, but the women on the site often see right through the deception.

Some of the posers have sexual problems (paraphilias). Some are likely gay and looking for hook-ups. And some might be living out a fantasy or transgender desire.

To tell you the truth, the ones that just want to blend in are of no concern to me. The ones who are exploitative, hurt and demean women in the long run.

Freud would, as he did with nearly everything, relate it to sexual frustration or some such nonsense. My guess is that people that use avatars probably either are not satisfied with themselves and are looking to project a different image or just want something different in their life. I guess most people want to be something more, or different, than what they are. Me, I'm old and wrinkled and technilogically challenged and haven't figured out how to put up a picture of myself or select an avatar. Anyway, I doubt anyone really wants to see my face. I'm thinking a dragon avatar. I really like dragons, especially the oriental ones. By the way, what little there is in my profile is the truth. I'm too old to want to make things up. It's just not in my nature. I believe in being honest with my fellow man (and lady).
