Why do I always realize blunders after I play them?

This goes not only for me but to many chess players as well. Sometimes we just play the most natural move after 30 seconds, get up for a coffee, then the moment we get up we realize that move loses. And then your face turns hot and that gut chilling runs down your spine and you facepalm and think "Why did I play such a stupid move???"

For example, one time I played a "Mate in one" but I thought my rook was on the wrong file, so i lost my queen O:

If you spots a blunder before making your move, you will simply avoid the blunder and play another move, and you’re unlikely to remember the I-avoided-a-blunder incident for long. You’re much more likely to remember actually playing a blunder and the frustration that followed.
