Hi Herbie, its really interesting, the first world correspondence champoion CJ Purdy was notoriuosly bad at 'speed games', yet given time, he was awesome. Stuff that works in blitz would never work in longer time controls, things like the stonewall attack, its too one dimensional for long play but in blitz its awesome because its so one dimensional. I wonder if blitz players look for that which is simply playable rather than the absolutely best move as one does in online chess?
Why do i suck at blitz?
In blitz chess, you don't have time for too much conscious thinking, nor can you afford to look for the best move, while these strategies are very rewarding in long time-controls. The required skills are different, and your thought process needs to be adjusted (switched to autopilot) in blitz chess.
Falsification is also a very good strategy with long time-controls, but you can't really use it in blitz.
Maybe you should simply try to play longer games ?
You'll become good at blitz with experience.
I have the same problem, I play pretty good on-line chess, but when it comes to blitz I suck bad. I don't understand it myself. I need insite also.
