The same reason there are fewer female engineers or computer programmers. It is scientifically proven that men's brains can more easily handle logic, reason, and rationality while women rank high on creativity and emotional intelligence (including qualities like empathy and interpersonal skill)

Scientifically proven by whom?

Whom?

People dont prove things true or not... reality does that, we just observe the reality. Thats what science is. Not all this "lets get to a nice cosy concensus" about what reality "should be" so we can all be comfortable and rationalising everything backward and ignoring reality and making all kinds of excuses for the way things are.

Lets take computer science... a realtively new field.

Over 90% if not more are all male.. in university and work environment.

Women have equal opportunity to take it up... infact they even have special programs and scholarships but alas...

What exactly is it that "holds women back"... is it possible the glass ceiling is actually wired into our genetics and not some mastermind plan by some free mason group to oppress women?

If men wanted to oppress women we wouldnt have invented things like washing machines, dish washers, cars, malls, universities, technology like computers, science, welfare states, phones, pointless cushy office jobs in A/C environments, taking 1/2 the husbands stuff in a divorce  etc... all these things remove womens dependance on men and *make* feminism *possible*. Without these things do you think there would be feminism?

Men are trying at every turn to free women.. but all we get in return is complaints of what you dont have yet. Have you ever heard a feminist acknowledge the role of men in the above inventions? Have you ever seen a female plumber, electrician, garbage collector, homless woman, oil rigg worker, construction worker, metal worker, etc etc etc... men have built the civilization which allows your whining.

Hygiene and cleanliness are key for me - #1. And #2....when it comes to talking, to not be attacked for how I see things - or turn it into a 'win' contest to see who is right and who is wrong. Just two things that come to mind....Hope this helps.....Smile.

Some of your best Chess players are women==I agree that men and women are about even

Avatar of anpu3

@indian1960, yes point #1 is important.  This subject has come up in other forums.  I think the rationale is... 'I'm not going to work/on a date/to church.. I'm going to play chess and relax'.  The definition of "relax" meaning they don't have to shave, bath or change clothes, etc.

Point #2, I'm not sure I'm on the same page with you.  My experience is that chess players are more taciturn than the general population.  There may be one or two guys that share more than any of us want to hear but mostly they just shut up & play chess.

Just an explanation. nothing to attack anybody.

A Man likes to argue with man. If a man doesn't argue with another man, then the former is a subordinate or has less knowledge to the latter.

But A Man don't argue with women, because the man always loses. lol.

Mr. Bean ? If we argued you would have to let me win....ok ? (after that you could have anything you want !)

@bean, yes, a valid truism!  But if I may steer this back around to the OP with a historical note.

A couple of weeks ago, the media noted the 40th anniversary of the tennis match between Billie Jean King & Bobbie Riggs.  The sad point is that it didn't change anything.  Tennis (at the championship level) is still segregated between the sexes.  Not to mention other sports such as basketball, volleyball and yes... even chess.  Chess which should be the first venue for letting women compete for the WC.

One previous poster noted that a lot of doors have been opened to let women in to all kinds of opportunities.  True, but a lot are still closed.  Can anyone give me a good reason as to why women are kept out of the WC of chess?

There are no good reasons and they are not.

The only time a woman has reached as far as the final eight is the FIDE World Championship 2005 (where Polgar finished last):

I stand corrected.  Thanks for the quick response.

Because women know that most chess players don't make a lot of money.

That makes little sense. The zumba class is not filled with millionaires either, but it keeps her body in shape and puts a smile on her vibrant face...
