I whould say it becus a lot of folding board start to move from the other peace so chess peaces fall over and theres a big gap in the middel

Big, flat, solid wooden chess-boards are very useful if you suddenly feel like sweeping all the pieces off the chess board and smashing the board over the opponent's head.

Folding boards are a bit too fragile for that sort of tactic.

I like the soft roll up boards used in tournaments. Mine still has some claw markings from a cat 🐱

Those soft roll-up boards are even less effective at bashing your opponent over the head.
