My father used to called it that. Tho' he never played. Did not know one way any one piece moved.
Is that considered the Ultimate Patzer ?....or what ?

Because when you win you yell out "Chest Mate" and then you have to chest bump your opponent. It's a strange rule if you ask me
....hilarious !
I mean it's such an odd word...."Chess"....that the nonplayer cannot relate the word to anything, right ?....but a treasure chest or something like that.
a good friend died, and a true lover of chess...
they had a memorial and all one guy could do was talk about how much he loved "chest"
it was bizarre and awkward.
I guess my point is, that while you don't HAVE to know what the name really is. if your speaking in public mentioning something your not very familiar with.
spend a second to google it. Know enuff not too seem like an utter dufus.
It'd be like "Yes, I speak Spanish !"....then someone breaks into some Spanish @u & u do a blank stare....hmmm.
btw. Patzer is too high of a title for someone that doesn't even know the correct name.
Great response 'cuz I was wondering, if not knowing anything about chess, are u a patzer ?....or is this an embarrassment to ranks of patzerdom ?
Not that being a patzer like me is something to hold proud status of, but am I classified with someone who doesn't even know how the pieces move ?
IOW's, is a newborn baby a born patzer ?
Old Mr. Webster says Patzer is "and inept chessplayer"....so fair enuf.
BTW, the word Potzer is an acceptable English alternative.
(I felt something like that coming....)
you started it haha
Just setting it up my luv........
....I'm in a light<3'ed mood this morning so I thought "why not"....start a silly fishing thread. My monday was sooo lousy (got kinda dehydrated - happens here) that it felt right to have a little fun.

NO patzers know how to move and they have seen a fair amount of chess education.
BUT they deeply fail to meet expectations. and their the kind of person- that sometimes non-chessplayers assume is REALLY good but actually aren't.
it IS a vague description and could include alot of people. but NOT people that don't know "Chest".

those moods are kind of fun. since YOU asked. do you figure you hear more mispronounciation bc you are a women or Less?
I would figure that you hear it said Less. idk. I don't hear it said much at all. most real People around me would rather talk about Anything else but chess. they are tired of it.
....just wondering.
