Why do people get chess.com to socialize?

I'm not seeing a downside.
Because people on social media don't play chess, and in consequence are less interesting than the people on chess.com.

Because chess is a social game. It was invented to be played between two people. Same reason people use telephones for talking, cars for commuting, and brushes for painting.

I'm here for the tactics work. I browsed the forum for a break.
I also prefer long games and these quick ones don't interest me. My brain is slow and methodical. This fast stuff I can't do.
I have a daily game going on now. So in a month or two I should finish up my first game :)

No, I'm not against it, Im just wondering. But WHY?!
Aside from not liking short games... most of the posts on this forum are about how horribly rude the opponent was or possible engine use. That keeps me from wanting to just jump into random games online.
