because its (in your opinion).
why do so many people like to play rapid when (in my opinion) it’s the worst time mode?

I disagree. The best online time control to prepare for OTB chess is, in my opinion, rapid. It's much better of a way to study all parts of chess than blitz and bullet.
The one thing I think is worse about rapid is the amount of cheaters. There are definitely more of those in rapid than there are in the other time controls. I still, however, like rapid more by a good bit.

Even if I know my moves it takes some time to move the pieces. So I prefer(ed*) 10 minutes.
*I play daily only.

I personally find it ironic the slowest live time control is called rapid. I mostly play 10 minute games.
When I play over the board I like to play at least 60 min.
My favorite over-the-board time control is a solid 90+30
Blundering because of time scramble sucks. Especially when you already gain a comfortable position in the opening or even straight up winning, so yeah no, rapid is the best time control.

I don't know, I just don't like to blow 20 minutes on 1 chess game. Even gotham videos I watch at 2x the speed. People don't have a half hour to burn all the time like that.
Fair enough, but then people who play bullet/blitz typically play more than one game (many more) and those add up to hours usually - not just 20 minutes. With that said, it isn't that people "don't have a half hour to burn", but rather that they don't want to sit through one game that long.
OTB chess tournaments almost always have time controls longer than 10 minutes. If the player wants to improve their chess ability and practice for OTB, then bullet/blitz will only condition them to move too quickly for those time controls (if left unchecked).
I actually like occasional speed chess and yes I believe it can be beneficial for learning when done correctly, but I also see the value in 10 min games and time controls much longer than 10 minutes.

Oh, absolutely! Rapid chess is just the pinnacle of boredom and pointlessness. I mean, who would want to actually think and strategize when they can just impulsively move their pieces without any consideration? It's not like chess is supposed to be a game that challenges your intellect and decision-making skills. Nope, let's just rush through it and get it over with as quickly as possible. Who needs depth and complexity when you can have a mindless race against the clock? Clearly, all those people who enjoy playing rapid are just masochists who love subjecting themselves to mediocrity.
Ya know, man, the first 10 years before making my first move I finished college and that taught me a lot about good openings. My second 10 years I bought a house, got married and had a kid. Boy does that change your perspective! Almost blundered my knight. I figure I'll finish the game by the time I retire.
Gotta be careful not to blunder that 401k....

No, some days I only play 3 blitz games. I don't like to strain my brain so much and wait for 10+ minutes for opponent moves. I stopped playing tournaments over 6 years ago due to the absurd nature of spending 10-12 hours on 5-6 games. And parents pressuring their kids to do that is borderline child abuse.

I do 60 minute rapid and the game usually ends in 5 minutes anyway. I do it cuz I don't like to be pressured, even though I move quickly.
The same reason Magnus Carlsen only plays bullet chess and has abandoned classical chess for the most part. It takes too much concentration and hard work.
"Speaking to ESPN in September last year, American neuroendocrinologist Robert Sapolsky said that a chess player can burn up to 6,000 calories a day while playing in a tournament. “Grandmasters sustain elevated blood pressure for hours in the range found in competitive marathon runners,” he said. Sapolsky should know, since he has studied the effect of stress on human health for over three decades. In fact, the death of two chess players within hours of each other during a chess Olympiad in Norway in 2014 led to a slew of articles on how the body reacts to hours of sitting in front of a chess board trying to outsmart an opponent."

I prefer 90|30 too, maybe something even longer if they had it in my area.

You can't even give 10 minutes to a fun game. You must be tired of thinking deeply time to move on I guess

I think it's because many people do not have enough time (like 3 hours) and sometimes they wanna play a game in their train or when they have to go in 5 minutes. But I also have to say that nowadays everything is too fast. Of course social media is a big reason. Short videos, no concentration. So many people just have not enough pacience and concentration. Very bad, isn't it!
If that was true, there wouldn't be classical chess. There wouldn't be people waiting for an hour OTB to make a move.
Bottom line, those who wish to significantly improve have to play longer games. There are exceptions, some very talented individuals, but even they will play better with more time on the clock.
If you don't care about improvement, the time control you enjoy the most is the best one for you, but if you want to get better, longer is better, for sure.
