Why Do We Fear Artificial Intelligence?

I don't think there are protective measures known against human stupidity: we've been inventing better weapons and fighting and killing ourselves faster and faster since the human species appeared on this planet so the idea of even trying to defend ourselves against Alien AI machines must be a joke. The truth is we should really get rid of our politicians first, they are far more dangerous than Aliens.

Besides, no Alien race in the entire universe could ever be as stupid as we are, so they wouldn't even need to fight us: the best Alien strategy -biological or artificial, it doesn't matter- for conquering this world is just letting our species destroy itself. Just a matter of time.

People! Have we learned nothing from The Matrix ?

There was a "Twilight Zone" episode about this exact scenario.

Robots play chess because they're rubbish at soccer.

They're better at that then any other sport I would guess :)  I couldn't imagine them making a robot that could play basketball!.

Watching videos like this reminds me how AI is not to be feared... because invariably after watching a video like this I notice my dogs doing something that requires a lot more intelligence and coordination.

@manavendra

Relating to artificial and cosmic intelligence, the veracity behind our reason is unquestionably flawed, as we are benighted in the assimilation relative to this substance; accurate interpretation in inception of the corresponding material, may, in actuality, be fallacious. Existing no establishment of the aforementioned indubitably vacates the dependent entity thriving directly on the presupposition, this protuberant fact extirpates any and all conceptualized cessations.

Typical Manavendra thread.

Cleary no one in this thread has watched terminator.

Robots have achieved Strikingly Good Play at various musical instruments (and Smile) ...

I guessing you don't create those motivational office posters for a living.

Good one!

I was trying to encourage the original poster not to waste too much energy thinking about Alien AI machines and hopefully pushing him/her a little into thinking new ways to improve human intelligence instead.

Aliens might be out there watching us but they won't say hi until we convince them we're no longer violent but fully trustable, so we need every brilliant human mind available to work in that direction.

The difference between a human and robot is that robots can not have have minds. You might make something like a mind, mabye something that could do all the functions o a mind but you never could create a conchisness. You see computers someday could take over the humans but they wouldn't do so. They wouldn't have conchesness so it wouldn't have a reason to do so. And the most important is that humans have a soul and, robots don't. God made the humans so nothing could ever be quite the same.

You may think that robots can never have "conchesness", but that is only because when robots play chess they are always honest.

This isn't a joke. And still a robot that has conchesness just seems wrong.

I have to ask. What the beans is "conchesness"?Laughing

Elroch

Well, Matthew11 should note the correct spelling is "consciousness". I suspect my attempted witticism based on "con chess" failed entirely.

artfizz, frankly I thought the robot music was very mechanical. Laughing

I do hope people realize that it has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt, that manavendra is an ET, and this forum topic is their way of making fun of us (pelicans and wombats included, no matter how much they deny the "us" label). As far as manavendra claiming to be from "India", it's just that he landed in America and thought it was India. You can't say that hasn't happened before...

There are millions of alien immigrated to the earth, living with us, without causing awareness from human being, because they're totally as similar as us, it's very difficult to distinguish them, unless you get trained.

1. Alien will stay with one channel very long, but not just switch between different channels freuquently, when they watch TV, because they want to absorb the info as more as they can. If you ever watch him, pretending to be arranging the stuff on table, when he watchs TV, the result is pleasant: Aliens just couldn't stay with one channel longer than 1 min.

2. The alien doesn't know how to pick a gift. Alien already learn to buy flowers sometimes. For this basic thing, they have no problem. But Aliens have no clue what kind of things he could choose as a gift for his wife. Then I understand as a human being woman, in case you just have an alien as your husband, you have to learn to be patient and understanding.

3. The alien hates shopping. Aliens are uneasy during the process. When it's done, they seemed quite relaxed. Alien's food taste also changes in different times. After supper, Alien feels guilty if he doesn't wash dishes.

4. The alien's body construction is different. It's hard to lean on them. Most time when someone just lean against Alien, on shoulder or belly, they usually would sounds uncomfortable: 'Errr...', and sometimes painful:'Ouch...'. becuase of the underlying electrical disturbances.

5. Aliens have an ardent fascination for Electronics and "Chess". An alien can easily defeat a mere mortal in whatever style of Chess, but they prefer to lose while causing much emotional trauma to their opponent by doing random sacrifices and moves which seriously lead the opponent to rethink their game plan. (1. h4,d4 2. Rh3...)

Yeah, after landing in America, I Nearly Died In Adoration so I chose India using this acronym.

Fear on some level is a response to the sensation that something is 'evil' or intends to harm us.  The human definition of evil has arisen as a reaction to separate or distinguish ourselves from nature.  It's a byproduct of how we make sense of ourselves and our situation as human beings.  So, it's not surprising some fear artificial intelligence.  In fact, thinking about it seems trivial from the basic angle.

I like AI.  I think all the humans should be destroyed!  Jk...

Our race is just one of the infinite races of sentient beings in the Cosmos. The illusion of the material world and the isolation from our Gaian roots has driven humanity to a point of shocking revelation. While most of us sleep unaware of the infinite potential that lies inside of us, there is something out there telling us about the big change coming our way sometime soon ... and the unification of all is what we are heading for ... a time for convergence ... a time when all duality dissolves as oneness ! The recent upsurge in ET / UFO activity around the world is intentional to bring to our notice the sign of the times. It is to show the world that anything is possible ! The real gift is of Freedom and all the creative energy is nourished with Love ! Somehow our consciousness which has for long believed to be separate from everything else around is fundamental to reality and what we perceive !

At the culmination of a natural 26,000 year old cycle, mankind is on it's way to ascension to a higher reality, a higher dimension or possibly as a multi-dimensional form of indestructible energy. Again, anything is possible and you just need to open your mind to the magic of possibility and how your consciousness affects it ! Our separation is to dissolve as oneness and these small steps towards God realization will make you realize that God is Everything and Everything is God ! The ET / UFO phenomena might well be the projection of our own psyche and is deeply rooted in this unseen web of energy connecting everything in the cosmos. Once we begin to see everything as energy, we gradually dissolve all the illusory duality and multiplicity evident all around us. All of the synchromystical events involving political chaos, war, environmental meltdown, natural disasters, ET, Crop Circles, UFO, genetic mutation, radical shift in consciousness, the Indigo children, DNA modification and the year 2012 are all connected !

The US Government is supposedly going to come out with the truth about ET and UFOs but i don't think the ET are waiting for the parliament to pass the bill  anyhow ! The truth is unfolding by itself however it's not something you will see on your telly or read about it in the local newspaper. It is there and finds it's way through various portals of incoming information to the inquiring intellect. There is always " Google Search " if you want to know more ... There was an incident at a US Air Force Base in 1967 when 20 Nuclear Missiles were rendered incapable to use by a UFO, all in a matter of seconds. The Columbia crash  has a mysterious UFO angle to it as well ... not so much an ET war as suggested by some but a measure to keep us grounded to Planet Earth ... why ... ?

We are under surveillance and constant vigil from the others who under most probability are on Earth and have been amongst us for a while now. An Alien Base on the dark side of the Moon where the famed Mother Ship sits still could easily be one of the most startling facts being kept from us in fear of an apocalypse on this power hungry planet Earth.

I don't know who is "we" in your question. You and your pocket protector?

I don't know of anyone who fears artificial intelligence. I know of no research suggesting people fear artificial intelligence. In fact, fearing artificial intelligence seldom comes up in conversation.

I've decided not to add it to my list of things to worry about.

"Why do we fear artificial intelligence?" Perhaps, you look at AI only in the form of mechanised Robots and machines. Tell me if the following is not a form of AI which people routinely misquote as "privacy".

1. Facebook has access to all your friends, pics, your likes/dislikes, the ads you click, you online gaming interests, etc. Based on all this, it's very easy to build your online digital personification in terms of AI, the more the data more accuracy.

2. Google knows what you search, your trends, maps, your important emails based on priority inbox, etc. They know about your online transaction details. No amount of encryption is unbreakable given ample time and computing power.

And you say, it's nothing to fear/worry about ???
