Why does no one accept my rematch?

Blah blah blah glam. Brittle as glass spirits abound in the chess community

I don’t do a rematch win or lose.

Uh oh. Another ill thought-out theory has just bought the farm!

Ubik, you sound like another teeny tiny computer chess b who can't handle competition. Now be quiet and go preserve what's left of your tiny ego. It's not I'll thought out, it's just that you're not capable of thinking. Not my problem

I never accept rematch because I like alternating the games I play.  I don't say 'No', instead I just exit to the games menu. Having said that, there are many times where after not accepting a rematch, the only game on offer is the same as just played, and in turn, I end up having a rematch with the same person I just played.

I play Arena to avoid rematch requests.

Crabby_Lion

I request rematches when I think I had a good chance to win but didn't. I usually play 3/2 and a lot of my losses are on time often with a winning position. Rarely do players accept rematches which is pretty lame, especially for someone with my ranking. Better players tend to accept rematches in my experience, and if someone keeps beating me twice in row (once with white and once with black), I usually accept it and move on. Fwiw, I rarely turn down rematches, unless someone keeps beating me and is using our games to pad their ranking.

I use to rematch until a few times I encountered after the 5th or 6th game, the opponent cursed me for not accepting their rematch. Also there has been times if I want a rematch after I had accepted their rematch, they don’t do the same in return.

So now, I don’t rematch to piss people off.

I have the impression that people ask for rematches if they lose and want to get even. I rarely accept them, unless it was an interesting, enjoyable and well-played game on both sides.

I never rematch people who play the London or otherwise show that they hate chess. Sometimes I even get rematch requests by Englund-players after they failed miserable with their traps. In that case I not only decline, but also block them.

Was a time I accepted rematches. Too many used help in the second game.

Imagine if chess com was a big enough server that you could be paired with someone else next game instead of the random opponent you just played and didn't know at all before tongue

How do you know this?

Of course that's why. I want to know who is the better player and one game doesn't tell that story. My feeling is if someone beats you b2b with white and black, that settles it enough to move on.

I analyze my games.

A little short on detail? You can tell if someone has help by what?

Crabby_Lion

So I did an experiment. I played a few different players using really bad tactics and losing and then asking for a rematch. Small sample size but each of the players accepted multiple rematches as long as I played poorly. When I play well and ask for a rematch I rarely get one. make of that what you will but for me it validates the earlier poster who said people are just looking for ego boosts.

The place to discuss this is the Cheating Forum.

There are many indicators. When you’ve played more than 100,000 games online, you’ll know.

I mean I would wager that people naturally do want to win so Crabby_Lion, your findings are not really surprising

it would not be possible to extrapolate that people simply do so to save their egos, though.

People want to win for sure but it sure seems like they are more interested in stat padding than anything else. Stat padding, to me, boosts one's self worth which correlates to ego, although people tend to conflate ego as false self worth.
