The point of the focus mode was to avoid things that distract attention from the game.
A lot of people said they didn't want to know the rating of the opponent.
Can't please everybody.

My search requests are always set to find a -25 to +400 rated opponent as compared to my rating.
Since I play a lot of Blitz games, valuable time is wasted to confirm an opponent's rating.
Why confirm? Moves made can make you wonder was that a blunder or do they have a motive?
Let's face it, we all up our game when challenged by a highly skilled player. The points gained are considerable and the pride of beating that player more enjoyable.
Show the rating!
Thank-you
One of the reasons for Focus Mode is to hide rating.

Maybe only enable it after you're paired so you can see it?
@justbefair Everything associated with your opponent appears but the rating. Their picture, flag, emoji, and internet status. In fact, they are even bigger in focus (or theater mode). It's certainly not about pleasing everyone it's about what is more logical to see.
@Martin_Stahl Why should someone have to do that?
To both: I have played nearly 54,000 Blitz games. My question was from experience.
Thank-you for taking the time to respond.
I haven't used it in a while but the Help page shows this:
I see no name, no Emoji, no flair, no flag.
so you can focus
yeah lol that's the point; not seeing that helps you only pay attention to the game

If they added rating, people that don't want to see it would have issues. I believe that's the only site provided way to hide the rating and focus mode was a solution for that.
IIRC 'x' is the hotkey. Just tap x to get a quick look at their rating then again to go back into focus mode.
As others said, an often requested feature was a way to hide ratings. Some people play better if they don't know them.
Kinda of funny that players responding are taking the "quick look". I've done the same thousands of times.
If someone knows of a study that shows people "play better" by not seeing a rating, please provide link. Serious request.
Just a setting that would enable rating to be seen would seem like the easiest solution.
