"I was low on clock in every game" ++ Better a winning position low on time than a lost position with plenty of time left on the clock
"The time control was 45+15"
++ Most chess games are essentially decided by move 30. So it makes sense to think 105 seconds per move to use up all time by move 30 and then finish the game on increment.
"I had 13 seconds on my clock and my opponent had 28 minutes on his clock." ++ And what was the position on the board? It is not your fault that your opponent plays too fast.
"I take too much time on forced moves" ++ It is often wise to not automatically recapture or move an attacked piece. You may miss a strong Zwischenzug.
"it took me 7 minutes to decide that" ++ 7 minutes is long for 45|15. What was the difference between both moves? If one was winning and one was losing, then spending 7 minutes may be wise. If both moves are equal then 7 minutes is a waste of time.
"Thankfully there was 15 second increment." ++ Yes thanks to the increment you have 15 seconds/move to win a won position or draw a drawn position.
"but was actually behind in clock" ++ The clock does not matter, but how was the board?
"I wanted to remove time pressure" ++ That is a bad idea. 15 seconds per move is no time pressure. Bullet players play whole games at 1 second per move.
"I made one mistake and I lost." ++ So you played too fast for fear of losing on time.
"I had a huge gap between me and my opps clock even 28 mins too."
++ Your opponents played too fast.
I was playing in a chess tournament today and it was day 2. I didn't have a good tournament and scored 2.5/5 but I realized one thing that I was low on clock in every game and in my 4th game it was a huge gap. The time control was 45+15 and in start I had lead of 1 minute over my opponent but at last it was like I had 13 seconds on my clock and my opponent had 28 minutes on his clock. My friend who was sitting on next table said I take too much time on forced moves too. In a position my opponent took my knight with his bishop and I could have captured with 2 pawns either c pawn or e pawn and it took me 7 minutes to decide that. (I am too lazy to show the position maybe I'll post that game in a blog bcz I enjoyed playing that game). Thankfully there was 15 second increment. I took 14 mins(approximately) for move 18th and was on 28mins and my opponent was on 38 mins and Ngl I actually spotted most of moves in game 4 but was actually behind in clock. I lost that game bcz I wanted to remove time pressure and eventually I made one mistake and I lost. So,
Can you tell me why it happens to me that I can easily flag an opponent in blitz as I am never low on time but in this tournament and when I play 30mins online I had a huge gap between me and my opps clock even 28 mins too.
