if you do not respect english language how do you expect for others to respect you or even consider what you have to say. it is a pain in the arse to read the previous paragraph. you are not texting to your sweetheart, you are posting in a public forum ! A lot of people here, have some sort of expectation from a chess player !

frankly my dear i don't give a damn about your ARSE (i had a good laugh there) and your expectations! is it better?

uhohspaghettio started a thread on just this same topic about two years ago and he's still here.

I used classic IE under Windows first. Then I switched to Mozilla Firefox.

Seriosly? Mozilla Firefox.I tried it and it did not even work.

The problem is not that you are expected to write in perfect English. The problem is that you use writing to communicate with people.

If you cannot make the effort to write in an intelligible manner, it means you do not consider that the others are worth it. Then why would they make the effort to decipher your gibberish ?

When in English or in French someone has difficulties to communicate with me because he just learnt the language, I can be patient. When I know fully well he is fluent in that language but uses poor spelling because it makes him win time to type or look trendy, my thought is "so, this guy considers his time is worth more than mine. Fine, I think the same."

OP, do you experience similar connection problems on other Chess sites too? Personally, I'd deem it a pity if I ever had to leave this site, because it's a one-stop for all your Chess needs (even for Basic Members, just to a limited extent).

I totally agree! Take the good with the bad.. But mostly good. The bad generally lurks on the forums...generally. At the end of the day, it's all amusing!

The disconnection issue is due to your internet connection.

You aren't that ignorant, are you? This has been disputed many many times in the forums, you know it and still repeat the same nonsense. Actually I think it is the server's issue and/or the data exchange between Live server and player's computer is extremely high for a simple chess game, which I call bad programming. No problems watching Youtube videos, no disconnections whatsoever, only Live chess games stall, reconnect and diminish clocks, resulting in losses on time.

The OP is right: Live chess here does not meet common standards. I see chess.com as primarily correspondence chess site.

If your theory were correct, everyone would have the problem. Youtube buffers significantly to deal with connection problems, so that is not a valid test of your internet connection. Set up a continual ping, route it to a text file and see how many packets you are losing when one of these disconnects take place.

I have no evidence in hand, but I suspect the net system of Live chess servers. It may be a surprise for you, but Live chess is not provided by single computer acting like central server, but quite a lot computers around the world connected together. I suspect it might be rather crappy connection between some of them than user's own internet connection.

I am not an IT expert, but I would expect videos require at least 100-times more data traffic than chess game (FEN, move(s), timestamp)

Youtube videos do require more data then a chess game I believe, but they buffer while you do have connection. If you buffer an hour video in 10 minutes, and then lose connection for 50 minutes, you probably would not even realize it, as the video would already be buffered.

Also, in addition to the FEN and moves it has to send the graphics data, which probably isn't too small.

Graphics data can be sent just once at the beginning of the game or can be even loaded from browser's temporary files. Re-sending graphics data with each move implies bad programming.

[P.S. edit] - Of course I did test my local connection when disconnected from Live game, simply by opening another window with another webpage. Local connection worked all the time.

Perhaps in western Europe, Canada, US and Australia Live chess operates better than in central/eastern Europe, Asia, Africa or South America. Back in 2008-9 it was bearable here, but in 2010 with rising popularity it became unplayable.

Well, it only has to load the pictures at the beginning, but then it has to keep track of all of the piece locations, possible moves, draw offers, claiming draws, illegal moves, premoves, and must redraw the screen every time if I am correct.

Polar_Bear

And FEN + PGN + a few additional symbols aren't sufficient for that? There are already features creating chess diagram with lines from FEN + PGN/moves.
