Yeah, intelligence certainly isn't the end all be all of desirable attributes. Not by a long shot.
I have to agree with all your *(OP's) points. However, I still feel like I need to satisfy the "I was also addicted to the distraction it provided me" part.

I notice you say chess is for introverts. I'm an extrovert. No need for me to provide examples, it's just the way it is.
And why I play chess? Because It helps me relieve stress and unwind.
Oh well, your decision should be respected but I hardly think it's necessary to make some dramatic announcement

Way to lose a few games, throw a child-like tantrum, post a big rant on why the GAME of chess is stupid, and look like a fool.
I don't know if this would be help full at all, but other day I did an online IQ-test...just for fun.
The results came in a few pages later.
There was this graph, and i was not even plot on it.
What followed was a little embarrassing, cause I actually woke my wife to tell her that I'm a genius!!!:D (how clever is that???)
I don't say the test was far off, but to my knowledge having a rating above 2000 is definitely for only a few people. That is why some have no difficulty at becoming a GM at a very young age.
As for the test, I'm sure everyone should take a look at theirs, especially if you feel offended at the honesty of this post.
It might be that people have difficulty of understanding what I'm saying, and that it would be an indication of how the test would go.

I used the same arguments to return to chess. Of course I was talking about World of Warcraft being a shallow, idiotic waste of time... and gave up bashing orcs and murlocs in favour of shuffling pawns and knights.

The thing is every one is different.
You did make some good points.
I play chess because I like to enter tournaments and win prize money. I like to win the prize money because A) it allows me to buy chess materials and enter more tournaments, which will hopefully make me a better player [kind of a lifestyle thing] B) I like to accomplish things C) I can throw crazy parties at my place and buy things I want.
Something like that anywayz.
