Oh the other midgame piece swarm thing.. When the swarm gets clumsy, there are combos based on this too, "piece coordination".
why is aronian elo below magnus
Come to think of it, Carlsen denigrators accuse him of using "endgame tricks"... Which they also accused Lasker of swindles... Whereas Fischer called Lasker one of history's greatest endgame players. Hmmm. (stroke of the goatee)
Games from 2004, heh, Carlsen was 13 then right? Yeah, that makes sense, throw the games from when he was a little kid into the stats.
No, from 2012. Here, look for yourself (looks like it is being updated so the number placement is changing):
carlsen has more wins then aronian
Here is my two centavos. Endgame thinking is different than middle game thinking. First: pawns. In middle game, pawns make chains and walls, and piece swarms and battering ram pawns are trying to fracture these walls. In the ending, pawns act like magnets, especially passed pawns, or opposing pawn majorities. Second, the pieces. In midgame, pieces work together in swarms, the skill is in envisioning how pieces work together. In the endgame, individual pieces are used to their full extent, not just as a piece in a swarm. They are generally operating both defensively AND offensively at the same time, but every pawn (magnet) move changes the entirety of a piece's function on the board. Third, the middle game calculation is more about sorting out tactical knots, whereas the endgame calculation is about choosing far ahead tableaus, sort of like sifting through a gin hand... So maybe Magnus is playing an entirely different game than everybody else, who are still following Kasparov's furious hyperactive middle game program.
