Why is Blitz Rating so much lower than Rapid?

I think time pressure is part of it. You seem to get into a decent amount of time trouble, but not a huge amount where you flag often, another thing is that IMO blitz is the hardest to get a high rating, I just think the player pool is stronger fsr 🤷♂️. But I agree with you, should make a difference in your elo but not 500 pts. You haven't played a ton of blitz either so maybe play some more

Hey everyone,
I'm around 1900 in Rapid, but only 1400 in Blitz. That's a pretty big gap, and I'm wondering why that is. I feel like I understand chess well and perform solidly in Rapid games, but in Blitz I often feel like i play fine except some blunders in some games but i don't think that makes 500 elo.
Is this kind of rating difference normal? Could it be a sign that I rely too much on thinking time?
I’d love to hear if others have experienced this and what helped them improve their Blitz performance. Thanks!
