Me who puts more physical exertion into chess then sports...
Why is chess a sport

I’m playing in a two day otb tournament right now (second day hasn’t started yet). And let me just tell you how wasted I was last night...

?

Any thing that prove it?

It's definitely a sport. Chess is highly competitive, has skill tiers, and worldwide organized federations. Even Tiddlywinks is a sport.

Chess is indeed a Sport and it's also indeed just a board game simultaneously, I'd like for everyone to recap all the other sports such as Boxing, Golfing, swimming, Soccer, etc and what do they all have in common? They are all competitive, they all require actual skills and not just "luck", they all involve physical movement and they all require mental skills and they are all intense. Now compare it to a Video Game, Yes call of duty competitions involve mental skills and involves physical movement however the reason why it's not a sport is because for one it relies on the specs of each devices e.g. bad device may have loser and good device may have winner and because it also relies on assigned variables that never actually determines who's truly good such as the health bar, a good player may lose to a bad player simply because they just had only half of the health bar filled up they may also lose simply because their device is trash and mostly because it's on digital platforms, name 1 sport that originally started out entirely digital(if you can name 1 then that would conclude that a digital sport can exist) Now Chess on the other hand, it involves mental skill, it involves physical movement and it's intense, it doesn't rely on "luck" it doesn't have one sided moments because someone is blind or because someone is deaf, it doesn't have one sided moments because someone doesn't have arms, it doesn't rely on a digital platform just like many other sports and therefore cheating would be easier to catch. However this just only means that it's not as risky as most other sports, but it is far more similar compared to many other activities that aren't sports.

and then we have Sports Like Bowling, Bowling is what I would consider as a fake sport, yes it can be intense. yes it involves physical movement and yes mental skills can be applied to it however it relies too much on physics, this can make things a bit too 1 sided a person doesn't need to be skilled to be making constant wins, all they really need is a good posture.

The issue with the definition of sport as well is that it's biased, since Bowling is considered as a sport you can definitely see the bias in that, I suppose we can all agree that "Sport" is simply subjective. There is no "Chess is a sport", "Chess is not a sport" it's simply "Chess is a sport to me", "Chess is a sport to International olympics committee".

I'm not going to read the whole thread, but essentially all physical sports are games.... WHEN they are being played for fun.
If there are stakes and the game requires skill (essentially not a result based on a coin toss) then I would argue that it is a sport.

I draw the line at Tiddlywinks.
--- But Why ??? Tiddlywinks is just as much of a competition as Chess is lol.
Chess is officially recognized as a sport by the International Olympic Committee
Idk if you saw my post earlier but I said that Just because the Olympic committee makes something a sport does not mean it is a sport. If chess is a sport do you agree that skateboarding and break dancing are sports. If you do that is fine, a little weird, but fine. Im not saying chess, "breaking", and skateboarding are not hard or competitive because they are. but because they are does not mean they should be a sport
yes, you, can call chess a sport but that does not make it one. People invest time in video games, and puzzles, i do believe it is a taxing game and competition but just because you want it does not make it a sport. ya feel?

Then the problem isn't if chess is a sport, but the difference between the official definition of "sport" or "physical" and the common definition.
