Why is chess a symbol of rich people?

i asked this question because when I watch a movie and when there is a sense where there is a rich person house I always spot a chessboard I the middle of a room

Rich people pride themselves on being smart. They like to think that the reason they're rich is because of their amazing intellect and hard work, rather than simply a matter of luck.

Chess boards, grand pianos and paintings are all symbols of intellectual superiority. It's a way of saying "I'm smart enough to appreciate the finer things in life."

No...I meant that that pic you posted it was a cheap chessboard but the rich people have grand chessboard
