Teach her and then let her play, get a tournament and watch her and cheer for her.
Or as in my case, teach her, marry her, go on honeymoon and get beaten in a chess cafe in front of many people by her.

Can you elaborate on "because of chess"? Do they dislike the game itself, or do they complain that you spend too much time playing?
Chess is mental. Girls are emotional, intuitive. Chess is a dead thing. Girls are alive. Chess is competitive, agressive. Girls are companions, lovely and sexy. Chess is yang. Girls are yin. Chess is more like a gay thing. Woman play the real challenge... to be with a stupid man, and teach him that life and love is much much more than chess. Girls play the real game.
We play chess because we are affraid to confront the real challenge. Girls aren´t affraid. To love unconditionally is the real challenge. And you have to be in tottality with a woman, the same as woman are in totality with a man.

What a load of crap. If this is really what goes through your head then you need to either grow up or stay off the drugs. It is uninformed about chess, patronising and ignorant about girls, misconceived about "gay". Really, better not to post at all than to post some wild ramblings which could have come out of an acid trip.
make consessions on both ends, play less and I'm sure she will understand/appreciate it. However, clearly you should be able to have your own hobbies. As snakesbelly says, my guess is that chess is a rival for attention, don't forget people and especially your girlfriend needs it too:)

I won't agree that chess is like a gay thing.
Chess is more likely the worst gf anyone can have.You love her with all your heart, you spend a lot of time with her ,you pay a lot of attention to her but she constantly cheats on you and hurts you.Yet you don't break up with her because sex is good 4-5 times a year.
Maybe girls dont like it that you can mate in many poisitions.
I suspect it's not the chess.
Do you brush your teeth? Do you bring flowers? Are you nice? And, etc.
Granted, chess can be blamed for many of the ills in the world. But...for not getting laid? Gimme a break.
On reflection, maybe the person to ask the above question is your girlfriend, not a bunch of strangers on the internet.
Especially being chess players we know nothing about girls.

Listen, a relationship is a give and take. :) If she cares for you, she will overlook your chess for awhile, but when she starts getting fed up, I suggest to weigh what is more important and IF you care alot for her, then limit chess, or play when she is doing her own thing. All other suggestions above were great also. :)
Talk about things she likes and don't just "act" like you care about what she likes, while you are making moves in your mind. Just some thoughts... good luck! :D
lol...nice man... funny we have issues that are simmilar... i brought a chess board to my gf house... we was gunna sit there and play chess... i won of course... by my gf wasnt too happy...she was all like "why did we sit there playing boring chess" i was like "chess aint boring!" long story short we got int oan argument over playing chess... I guess woman want to be pampered and chess just ant the key to a womans heart yet
I can't understand why chess is affecting my personal relationship especially with my girlfriend, most of the time i end up losing my relationship to chess. Most of my girlfriend leave me because of chess. I need some good answer please coz i'm in a mess right now.
