Some people are better at teaching than they are at playing.
Id bet he does have some students who have become very strong, since he has received a few awards for teaching. I suspect you dont get these awards without proving your teaching methods work.
Why is Dan not a IM at least ???

Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. No disrespect intended to Dan or Jeremy at all, they are simply better teachers than players, different skill sets. Does anyone really think that Nakamura would make an excellent teacher?

Hmm... his videos are basically aiming at players from 700-1500, explaining general principles and basic strategies. He does a great job in doing that, but I guess you do not need to be a very strong player to teach beginners ...

Go ask Silman why he is not a GM.
Or rather, one could ask the backyard professor why Silman is not a GM. You might get a more enlightening answer.
Imagine that lady trying to get coaching from Dan Heisman.
Lady: I chess want to learn. Chess.
Dan: OK. How much do you know?
Lady: when king gets to end of board that is win right?
Dan [under breath]: oh man, how do I tell her to take up snap instead?

I feel bad for the first caller - "I got a rook and a pawn - "
Her thoughts: "I have no clue what he's saying, time to hang up".
It just seems weird cause the advice Practical and for Training just seem so good so it really makes me wonder why NM Dan Heisman never reached as far as IM level ? Does he have a famous student who is at the very least a IM by now from working with Dan ever since they were a beginner or low amature ?
