Why is everybody interested in nonsense threads?

I always try to make threads that apport something to chess but they always get shadowed by trolls, nonsense threads like patzers refuting 100 year old openings or absurd questions like 'what's my style?' when they are barely 1000 rated.

If a new player really wants to know their style then to them it's a serious thread.

But in general, it's easier to talk about simple things, so that's what people spend the most time talking about. It has a name too:

Check them out, it's not. They just want attention

Checkmate_06

People come to forums to find friends and chat with each other and get a break from chess (Thats what most of the people do)

Amazing that you can see through players asking questions about their style.

I'm sure some want attention, but if they really really craved attention they'd do something more radical then "what's my chess style?"

This is a bit of a nonsense thread if you ask me.

The same for you. I have created interesting posts, which doesn´t get any attention. I dare you to comment in some of them.

-Stucked in 1300

-Play like a patzer then win brilliantly, just do it, it works to me

-Dr. House best moments

Yea that's pretty bad.

I'd rather argue with that one guy over LeBron vs Jordan.

That is the problem.  Its not an argument, its a discussion.  Somewhere along the way we forgot that its ok to have a different opinion.  I miss the days of "Lets agree to disagree" and "I don't agree with you, but i respect your right to your opinion"

Now its..."You're an idiot..." "I'm offended..." You're <insert phobia card here>..."

True. But not everything is an opinion. We have a large following of "flat earthers" right now .. or back in 2012 we had people who truly believed that the Mayan's knew when the end of the world is. Clearly not everything here that gets discussed is as black and white as that but there are a lot of topics that get started here as questions where the person asking clearly doesn't want the real answer. They just want someone to support their opinion. Even though we have centuries of chess to tell them otherwise.

See but Chess hasn’t been solved yet as where they have proven the earth isn’t flat..

And we will always have people that believe we never landed on the moon, the holocaust never happened, we never landed anything on mars, or whatever the flavor of the month is.

I think we could agree that anyone that comes to s chess site, opens an account to "prove" the earth is flat either doesn't know what they are talking about, or simply craves attention.  Now we all have a choice.

1. Get sucked into the discussion.

2. ignore it.

Like the saying goes.

Who’s more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?

Argue was a poor choice of words on my part.

It's a discussion/debate. Albeit one that's very passionate and polarizing among basketball heads.

I know what you mean though.

If i had to choose between the two i would choose Jordan.  And I'm a Magic Johnson fan, so its not because of a Chicago/Jordan bias.  No one...and i mean NO ONE traveled more than Jordan.  How do you think he made all those spectacular dunks?  But i think he simply had more talent.  Lebron is a phenomenal player, but i also  think has benefited from more calls than any other player ever.
