My rating fluctuates widely and I have losing and winning streaks, but what matters most to me is consistency in learning and practice and a longer time perspective. The 30-day curve shows higher lows and higher highs, which means that I'm improving.
Why is my rating dropping?

Hey @KeSetoKaiba,
Just wanted to say thanks for this thread. It's been a helpful read. Even though my problem probably arises from circumstances that don't have much to do with chess, I didn't want to believe they would reflect that acutely on my gameplay. Anyway, I wanted to thank you for reminding me I'm not the worst version of myself (as a chess player), and pushing on and addressing my problems will get me out of my current slump. Best of luck to you

Hey @KeSetoKaiba,

Thanks for the nice message and glad my thread helped you; good luck to the both of us

One reason why I got worse is because I started playing with a mouse instead of a trackpad, losing about a second on every move. It could also be because my opponents started using a trackpad.

Hello! I peaked 1200 two weeks ago and I dropped to 1150 in a week and I was maintaining that rating for around more than a week. In the past 2 days, I've gone from 1150 to 1030, 120 points of loss. I know that I do not belong to that rating, but droppings happen to people. So, I'm working in getting back to my peak of 1200 again. I'll update soon

For me, it was simply a drop in concentration. I had been steadily increasing and hit a new high (we are talking about 1300) and then within a couple of weeks I had dropper 150 ELO. I think I just rushing through games on instinct going with one of the first couple options without deeply analyzing the positions. Concentration has always been a problem for me and I don't know how Magnus powers through endgames like he does because I could not hold my concentration for that long. So in my opinion, playing to much blitz (and certainly bullet) can do that to your game. Play longer time controls and try to remove distractions if any distractions have popped up around you. Also, play a few matches against the computer with assistance turned on to see lines that you have become fuzzy on, then go back to cleaning up against human opponents.

I don't know why am I constantly losing my games. I was 814 ELO, but now I am less than 750 ELO. This days I am playing like a 100 ELO player and always blundering mate in 1 or my pieces (Most of the time my rooks and my pawns).I could easily beat a 900 ELO player easily but recently I can't even win against a 600 ELO player. Please help me. I am so frustrated about that.

Let's congratulate each other.
By the way, I wanted to ask if they often do not give a ban
chess.com doesn't ban people for dropping rating; they can potentially ban people for unfair play (cheating, or rating manipulation such as sandbagging), but let us keep unfair play discussion out of the public forums and keep it in this chess.com club made for these discussions:

It's dropping cause the system is overloaded with rats. So you'll have to turn yourself into mittens wont ya.

Most likely, I would guess, that you are currently on the lower end of your present average rating rating range and therefore it's likely to return to somewhere between that and your peak. And so that peak is maybe a good doal to become your average rating. I sometimes worry way too much about rating dips .. My self I'm a 58 year old musician and chess is a daily hobby (presently rapid 1031 (maybe we should play )Also I have multiple sclerosis so I worry (pointlessly) about cognative decline. maybe that's why 15/10 suits me better. I noticed that you play Daily chess... I should probably do that. Maybe the stronger players than us would suggest some Blitz or Rapid.
My Rapid rating is currently 1031 if I have an especially good run
Wtf my rating has gone from 1100-1200 to under 900 i am consistently getting pummelled by 800+ players. I used to be able to take down up to 1500 players but have lost like my last twenty games against 800 players... Something is up with the app and it is pissing me off

I Feel your pain Iphelix...But i looked at one of your games. You are low rating (8-900) in one minute bullet. I play bullet but always 2+1, long enough to actually think and make reasonable moves. I also mix it up, blitz and Rapid. I find rapid the most draining as I get nervous, i find Blitz and Bullet help me to relax oddly but still i lose on time every now and then. Your puzzle rating is quite low (1289) compared to your blitz (1483). I suggest stop the one minute bullet, build up your openings (dc in the Smith morra gambit is not in line with the openings themes and ideas- you want them to take the pawn, dont take theirs if they ignore keep developing, and when they take hit the c3 and again leave until they take...The smith Morra is all about development) in blitz and rapid, the game i analysed you played Nc3 to a bishop and queen bearing down on f2...a simple Qf3, Qe2, Qd2 would have avoided the problems of losing the right to castle along with the f2 pawn. If you must play bullet play 2+1, and spend a little longer looking for good moves and dealing with your opponents threats. Thats my advice, take it or leave it I guess.
Thank you Robin... I will have to review your welcome advice as far as actual moves are concerned and will likely heed your advice to switch to 2+1

I was grinding yesterday until I got to 717. The nest day, my rating is down to 524. I didn't play any games between those times. WHAT"S UP @CHESS.com
Just figured I should let you know that absolutely nobody in the entire world asked.
