Why is playing rook to e5 stupid ?

Nd5 seems better

It Looks like after Rxe5 the attack is not going trough.

Actually if i press the Icon on the left Corner, i can analyze the Position with the engine.

I think you can use this Option too. I have no premium account and i can use it.

Too high tech for me mr Giger

Just at a glance, you're already down 3 pawns. So if your big idea after Rxe5 is to win an exchange you'll still be down material.

The mentioned move Nd5 is a double attack (e5 and e7), so it's a more attractive candidate move to check.

Rxe5 looks correct to me, but the follow-up certainly isn't Bxf7.

Yes I had Ne4 as well, which I thought looked better than my next best option, which I thought was Nxf7.

Sure, Rxe5 looks good, but so does Nd5. After calculating which do you like better? If you checked both moves just a little, you probably prefer Nd5. In other words, if you like Rxe5 you probably didn't even check Nd5.

There's an old chess saying: "If you see a good move, wait... don't play it. Look for a BETTER move."

There's an old chess saying: "E4 best by test."

Yes, it's incorrect, like many but not all old wives' tales.

Sadly for me, I didn't see what 1.Nd5 achieved when I looked. Rxe5 looked obvious.

Nd5 is a double attack on e7 and e5. The only move for black that doesn't immediately lose a piece is Nxd5 when after Rxe5 it's another double attack and this time white immediately wins a piece.

Chess is not just a science, it is art, and as a chess player one of your obligations is to make a piece of art whenever you can, so Rxe5 is the best move, flashy, elegant, aestethically pleasing, geometrical and backed up by analysis.

Geez, those philosophy classes did help!

So Rxe5 doesnt work? Did I just act like a fool on comment 17?

1.Nd5 Black's defense should go with 1...Qd8, seeking to take advantage of the undefended Ng5 after 2.Rxe5 Rxe5 3.Bxe5 Nxd5 4.Bxd5 Qxg5.

Instead of 4.Bxd5 white has 4.Nxf7 1-0
