Why Is the Rook so Short?

Blocking is indeed the ultimate form of cowardice for the weak minded and those  who cannot come up with a good reply in general possible due to being thin skinned and not quick witted enough.

However un-blocking coupled with an admittance to the error of ones ways takes guts even if only to try revive a mindless thread in which to promote other equally mindless threads that should have died a quick death in the no responses section.

I too apologize for trying to keep this dead herring in the hot topics list.

I think now that we have both apologized and cleared the air we can resume the topic of the rook and its apparent lack of suitable size.

This clearly proves the duck is not one to hold a grudge and also gives credit where credit is due.

I couldn't resist blocking you because it was the perfect act of oppression at the perfect time.  I had to do it.  It was just too funny.  But I shouldn't have done it.  I'm a strong advocate of free speech (you know, as dictators go).  President_max recommended that I commute your sentence.  Evidently he sees some potential in you.

Welcome back, Duck.

@Floating-Duck Welcome back ducky. Any form of apology from @FBloggs other than where he falls at your feet and begs for mercy and apology is most likely a ruse. Don't fall for @FBloggs' diplomatic tactics and stand your ground firmly.

Waiting eagerly for the debate "Rooks- are they actually ancient Indian chariots or English castles?" to commence soon. At a cinema hall... I mean a goofy thread... near you. meh.png

Excuse me.  I did not apologize.  The duck considered his commutation an apology.  No, it was an act of mercy by a benevolent dictator.  The duck, however, did apologize.  Of course he apologized only for contributing to my stupid thread's placement on the hot topics list.

I mean my lighthearted thread.

Hey, you should check out Favorite famous game.  I (successfully) posted two immortals.

Floggs is right : he admitted to wrongfully blocking me and being unable to come up with a worthwhile response and now of course that this is a stupid thread.

Admitting you are wrong, thin skinned and slow witted is not so much an apology as merely stating the facts.  Being honest is an admirable quality.

I accepted it as a form of apology to clear the air because I am like that, a builder of good relationships on the forums regardless of the patzer or deadbeat thread involved which is why cc members and admins love me.

Just recently a member went so far as calling me ‘adorable’

I would love to get back on topic but this thread is turning into a hard sell for the OP’s other threads which are about as exciting as a dead lark.

Check out my favorite famous game thread, but wait there is more , act now and you can also check out my greatest thread yet: is breathing better than not breathing etc. etc.

Writing good content is a skill, and you should keep trying, in time you might get there , it is the upside of the law of averages.

Come on, look at this thread's title.  I'm not referring to its stupidity.  There is only so much people can say about the rook's height.  So of course I'm going to plug my other thread before this one dies.  And if you act now and post a game on Favorite famous game, you'll get My rematch request was rejected! absolutely free (just pay additional processing and handling).

Chariot, castle, elephant.

What does it matter really when height is the actual question?

Thr rook is short because it is at the corner of the board and therefore the end of any queue.

Avatar of chessspy1

The tread is called "Why is the rook so short"?

I answered many posts ago that it is because it is at the corner of the board. Go look on my 100 antique chess sets blog to see an explanation of the reasons. It is on the picture of the Edel family set.

Avatar of Floating-Duck

That is utter no sense chesspie , why on earth would anything be short just because it is in the corner?

Then you also say it is at the end of the queue, which is it , the corner or the queue?

It sounds like you made that up.

The rook is short because chariots are not that high.

Avatar of Floating-Duck

Also the elephant is mistakenly called the bishop ,not to be confused with the rook or ruch which is the chariot.

Avatar of Floating-Duck

I might have to queue at the shops tomorrow I will let you know if I shrunk in the process.

I will have to pass several corners in the process, I might end up as a midget.

hahahahaha......short because of queues....talk about bad troll attemps

Now, now Ducky, Let's keep it civil, please.

Clearly, I was joking. wink.png

Avatar of Floating-Duck

Ah yes...a joke of course.

First you try feed the community your false facts and the when exposed you call it a joke.

But why stop there ?

Let’s call the duck uncivilized for exposing you.

well done chesspie

Avatar of chessspy1

Ok Ducky,

You got me I am a sham.

Sheesh, I thought I was helping.

Chesspy1 is 100% right. It is just for aestethical reasons.

And, BTW, the Italians are to blame for the fact that Rooks since the middle ages have been mistaken for castles. They confused the word 'rukh' with the Italian 'rocca', meaing 'fortress'.

Avatar of Floating-Duck

This is the second time in one thread the duck has made members see the error of their ways and got them to admit it.

Which is of course why so many regard me as the one true spiritual leader of chess world wide.

Avatar of Floating-Duck

I will tell you how wrong you are tomorrow Muller, the duck is off to bed.
