And there's no reason to have touchmove in daily considering you can literally analyze the position.
Why is there no touch move rule in chess.com

Chess.com provides for a takeback option.
But its up to the player.
I never ever allow takebacks nor ask for them.
Its a game. Nobody Died.
There's a takeback option? I think it might exist in daily but I'm pretty sure it doesn't in live.
If they got rid of that option - nobody told me.
But since I never do it anyway - I wouldn't know if they did do away with takeback.
I'd say they haven't. We could probably find out fast.
I don’t recall seeing such an option even in (and I would’ve appreciated it) unrated games against friends.

mouse slips account for enough mistakes online & you aren't playing by fide, but site rules... perhaps you should be playing in-person at a rated tournament if you want to go with official touch-move contracts? this is a more casual atmosphere here as evidenced by the chat bar.

My internet search engine results are indicating that chess.com currently allows takeback in unrated games.
'Indicating'. Doesn't mean I'm certain.

This is correct

This link indicates you click challenge on the page of the player you want to play - and the takeback option should appear.
But I don't even see the Daily button when I do that.

Now I see it. You hit unrated. Then one of the various 'days per move' buttons and then suddenly the takeback button appears.

I think one of the main reasons behind touch move is that touching, and especially picking up and starting to move, pieces could be very distracting to your opponent. Online, this is a non-issue.

Another reason is that things are very tidy online compared to much of the time in OTB chess.
The pieces are always centered. The clock press is always instantaneous.
Nobody can knock over a piece.
The board is always set up properly at the beginning.
And the computer won't let anybody play an illegal move.
Mate is always noted and always final if you don't go down first.
And it will do the calling for the players. Flag - mate - dead draw and so on.

thats boring and stupid
I didn't have much experience in my very first chess tournament and i was not aware about this.So I lost that game.Maybe chess.com can add the touch move as optional
I'm planning on getting VR power gloves to move pieces online since OTB you can't move them with a mouse. Also OTB the rook doesn't move itself during castling. Also ...

And OTB - pawns don't disappear by themselves when you take them en passant on a different square from where they are.

This is actually a legitimate question. I'm surprised so many people are hating on OP.
"If you click a piece, you have to move it" - surely this isn't hard to understand?
As far as mouse slips are concerned: that's the player's fault. In the same way that if you mouse slip and move a piece to the wrong square by accident, you have to deal with the consequences of that, why is it not also consistent to enforce mouse slips regarding touching pieces - if you accidentally click a piece, you still have to move that piece?
Now, my personal opinion is that as long as we allow highlighting squares and drawing arrows, online chess will never function the same way as OTB chess, so it's okay to allow some extra features like clicking a piece but not moving it.
But I think that this question is totally legitimate and it's fair to discuss this. It's by no means absurd to contemplate implementing this rule.
