Why is this game a draw?

He ran out of time.  He still had material.  Why didnt I win?

It is because you didn't have enough to checkmate. It is under chess rules that if the opponent or yourself ran out of time and not enough for checkmate it's automatically a draw

So are the rules. You should be very happy with the draw in this position, don't be greedy.Smile

I thought s/he who ran out of time first lost.  I didnt know there was additional rules beyond that.  Thanks for the clarifications!

I wouldnt say I'm greedy, it's not like my sub-1200 score is that impressive anyway. :-)  Just a novice passing some time.
