Magnum's what, 21 years old now? Wow, if he becomes champion next year, he could have a long long reign, maybe longer than Kasparov. On that documentary, it showed him not looking at the boards and still knowing all the positions of many games - is that for real you think?
Why Isn't Carlsen the World Champion?

Yes. A blindfold simul with 10 games. It was very impressive.

you should look at the world records for blindfold simul. 10 isn't especially extraordinary.
It's pretty extraordinary to us regular folk.

Not that impressive because people have done more in the past? I'd disagree. A 9.8 second 100m is impressive even though Bolt has run much faster.

He was beating Masters though, not just making moves against patzers. It doesn't need to be a world record to be impressive, or even that close.

arguably playing blindfold against masters might be easier for the first half of the games -- since it is quite unlikely that the game will leave "book" openings. While playing a patzer it's likely to get wierd positions by move 8.

Not a fair comparison. First off, a 9.8 would have been a world record until just a few years ago (if we omit Ben Johnson's 9.79) and it would still be among the fastest 100M ever run. When asked about breaking Ben Johnson's 9.79, Carl Lewis said something like "I think I might be able to run 9.82". 9.8 is darned impressive for 100M...
On the other hand, tons of people have been able to do way more than 10 blindfold games simultaneously. Much less impressive chess players than Magnum have been able to do it. I even think I have half a chance at it.
Alas, my chances of running 9.8 at 100M were never very good. God gave me all those slow-twitch muscles so fat girls used to beat me at 100M when I ran track. But I enjoy watching all those Olympic decathletes try to run 1500M. Pitiful.
Whatever, the exact time is irrelevant. 10.1 is impressive. The point was just because people have better doesn't mean it can't be impressive.

Well I reckon I could beat the world record as white. 1. f3 then 2. g4 and I could complete 100 games easily.

honestly i think carlsen could crush anand or gelfand he just didnt play compared to carlsen i dont think there play is that good

From what I understand, Carlson is very good in tournaments, but in one on one match play he has struggled. Against someone like Anand, a long match would expose the weaknesses of Carlson. The surprise factor wears off quickly once the opponents figure each other out and then it is simply a test of skill at that point.
Personally, I would like to see Carlson go in a six game match against Kramnik first before even thinking of a world championship title match.

I heard that from a title player. I guess he meant to say that since he does not have experience in match play, he would probably struggle since it demands greater preparation and skill.
I'm relatively new to chess. Saw the documentary on this new phenom Magnum Carlsen - says he's the highest rated in the world. Why isn't he the world champion then? Is that Indian guy dodging him, like Spassky and the Russians dodged Fischer for years back in the late '60's?
