Hello gumpty! There`s actually solutions to this problem. Chess.com is really a great, but still young site. They will eventually end up taking fully care of this issue. But it demands manpower. RedHotPawn is one of the very few sites, which actually succeded in dealing with cheating. They do have a "task force" looking into this sort of matter. With a little patience, we will see that going down here also!
Why me and playing Internet chess are finished!

Gumpty, you might think I'm being rude, and that's fine, but I don't think you understand the concept of consequences. When people start reading posts like yours and the one that sparked you to take your action it begins to panic the masses who, like sheep, begin to follow suit and jump ship. You did it. So, you're what, a gold member? So you paid your $30 for the year, but you don't realize that by espousing such nonsense as you have you may have cost Chess.com hundreds if not thousands of dollars. This is why Eric has had to create a post discussing the rarity and severity of cheating on the site in order to put out a possible fire that's been created, and for what? It's likely that the people who will not get a membership now are those who shouldn't worry about it since it doesn't effect them. The majority of the people on chess.com are below 1500 and therefore will never meet an engine on this site except for Little Chess Partner. You may have inadvertently scared them away, and for what? So you could announce to the world how much you wish to protest these atrocities. Honestly, you have the ability to do so, but is it worth it? Will Chess.com be able to catch more cheaters with less funds? Can they focus on the problem while having to manage damage control over these posts? If you feel so strongly about this problem then you should be constructive and find solutions, like forming a group of anti-cheaters who only play one-another and when someone accuses someone else of cheating then the admin can look into it and if they so feel kick the person out of the group. Sounds like a much better way of handling the situation then to quit all your games and whine on the forums about how this epidemic has caused you such consternation. Then again you asked me to butt out, so from here on I will. God speed.

I'm getting tired of people wasting time posting threads on this topic, especially when it really has nothing to do with them. Seriously Gumpty, you want to leave then go quietly into the night and stop griping about the reasons you're leaving. Do you think at all that anyone who does cheat might read this and be saved by the sudden cancellation of your games and picket line stance on no longer playing? Truth be told, if people cheat they're not interested in whether or not you continue to play. You were rated in the 1900's and played 398 games of which you won 245 time and of course that would have been more if you hadn't run out on all the games you were playing. Do you really think you were a victim of cheaters? Do you think you would have been rated higher if cheating never existed? Obviously if your didn't face cheaters in over 61% of your games, things can't be that bad then.
You want to whine and complain? Do so if your dog died, if you lost your job or if you can't get your kid that game he has always wanted for his birthday, but don't complain about cheaters on chess websites. With all the crap going on in this world you'd think people might have better things to worry about. If you don't then kudos, start enjoying your life and quit worrying about morons who like using computer programs. You can handle your own fine, and if you did love the game as much as you profess then you'd enjoy the game instead of worrying about if that guy you're playing against is using a program. Hint, hint if you're beating him or it's close, he's probably not.
It's a short life, you should live the rest of it.
OK,first off, read my post again, and this time use your eyes....im not going anywhere, im simp0ly not playing any more games here, and secondly as a paying member here i can come and go as i please, i dont need your permission, and also nobody asked you to read this thread, so in short 'butt out''
Oh boy! First you complain that people are cheating and are quiting online chess... Boo hoo... Now you're complaining about people responding to your posts... Please say that means you're going to stop posting...Christmas comes early? Unless I'm wrong, which of course...I'm not, you didn't post this thread in some private forum, so you did ask me to read it, why else post it for everyone if you didn't wish everyone to read it?
On another note, FYI a prenup will not stop you from being cheated on and it will not mend a broken heart, so that logic falls short. You security system doesn't prevent your property from being stolen, it just deters thieves from entering your home. Rael's point is still very valid, do you run away from all situations and experiences that might be unfair?
LOL this really is hilarious, ive been in the security buisness for 15 yrs and im scared of a chess server! ROFL. I deal with idiots in my daily life, always have, the fact i have chosen to stop playing online chess is a decision i have made for my own reasons,HAHA

I think you are disappointed because you lose a lot and you don’t become stronger easily ..
To say that your opponent uses a program is a little to easy, blame the other not yourself.
I think maybe we should suspect you that you use chess programs, why not you, why the other is bad?
Keep in mind that the way from 1200 to 1800 is easy, then you get the stronger opponents, you can’t expect easily get a rating above 2000.
Btw Cheaters should have higher ratings then your opponents, or they use pore chess programs.

I wonder who is complaining more... Gumpty or Sittingpawn
I actually think Sittingpawn is complaining more over Gumpty's complaining than Gumpty actually was concerned about.
At least Gumpty had a reason to be annoyed.

Hi Gumpty,
Sorry to hear this mate :( but I understand your feeling of frustration, and thus respect your decision. For those positing negative comments (sittingpawn) - nobody wants to hear your opinion nor do we need it... bloody disrespectful, take your opinion to youtube where'll you will find other likeminded fools.
I'm glad you are still going to lead Team England; it wouldn't be the same without you.

Correspondence Chess isn't for me.... I love Chess, apart from my wife and kids, it has been the most important thing to me over the past 20 yrs. I love playing the game, i love reading about the game, i love watching others play the game, i love the competitive aspect of the game, i simply love everything about Chess! I collect the books and magazines, i play for my local club, i play in OTB tournemants, i study chess whenever i can, even at work! I also love chess.com , its fantastic! i have spent many hrs on here, and will continue to do so! Erik has done a fantastic job with this site, and out of all the sites i have been a part of over the years, this is the best, i say that without hesitation.... chess.com has something that all the other chess sites lack, chess.com is a COMMUNITY...full of people like me with a real passion for this game, you can do so much more here than play chess. It really is a dream come true for people who love this game. Anyhow, to my point, i have just resigned 41 of my 47 games here, and the only games i will play to a finish are my team games, as i dont want to let my team down! The reason? I really felt that i had to take control....let me explain. As much as i love this game, there is one thing that i HATE about internet chess. That is the fact that people can CHEAT. Im not talking about databases, books, or game explorer etc, they are ALLOWED, and within the rules of this site. I talk about the use of engines in this site, and prob ALL INTERNET CHESS SITES. Now let me get something straight here, I AM NOT BLAMING CHESS.COM IN ANY WAY. how the hell can they stop people cheating? answer: they can't! Its a trust thing, and nomatter what the punishment is 'after the fact' chess.com nor any other site can prevent the use of engines. So i said i needed to take control? yes, i needed to have piece of mind, that i am not playing against programs here, and as some of you will have read in a couple of recent threads here :( http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/cheating-on-chesscom and http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/computers-in-correspondence-chess ) there isnt a way to prevent the risk of you playing against computer moves here, or any other internet site, UNLESS YOU DONT PLAY AT ALL. So i guess you could say that i have found a way to defeat the cheats, they will never take a single point off me again, i will never lose to a cheat again, and that in its sad little way makes me feel like i have scored a shallow but certain victory against the scumbags. Why do cheats annoy me so much you may ask? , well im not sure! i think it has something to do with me being an OTB player long before an internet player, and basically being 100% certain in my games that i was playing the person sat infront of me! I guess im a little paranoid by nature, or you could call it careful, but i have witnessed enough cheating in my time on the internet and think it is time for me to take control of my own actions! I will still be running team england (which i love). I will still participate in my teams votechess games, still be active in the forums, and will spend time that i used to use playing games, learning more on tactics trainer and reading articles etc. But basically from now on i am a non-playing member here... over and out, si crowley
Hate to see a truthfull man like this go. Wish i could have played you.

What is this thing about 1500 and engines, do we have to pay to use the site if we hit 1500?

To bad you feel that way . You know that you don't cheat ,and sometimes you might loose against a cheater , so what ? They have to live with it .

"but I hope they never make an anti chess engine or I just don't know what I would do!! Maybe you should take up anti-chess for your online games?"
I have got a program that plays anti-chess (losing chess). On a pretty average level, through.
What!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! I can never play anti-chess ever again!!!!
Who builds an anti-chess engine, seriously!!!
That's it, I'm done, I'm resigning all my anti-chess games! effective anti-meddiately!!
I can certainly relate to your feelings Gumpty. I hate cheaters too, and I love to play OTB chess at work. ...but here's my view on it:
If people are so shallow that they have to cheat at internet chess in order to feel good about themselves, then they have bigger issues than weather or not they're going to win the game. Do I like to win when I play? Of course, we all do. However, I accept the fact that I am going to loose from time to time, in fact I get spanked like a small child often. But I take something away from the losses: knowledge. So even in loosing a chess game I am gaining something. If they defeat me by using engines, then I am still taking knowledge away from that loss. And they made my chess.com rating go down because of it? Oh well, it's just a number. I play because I enjoy the game. my chess.com rating doesnt earn me respect. It doesnt earn me money. It's not an integral part of my life other than a very basic means for me to track my progress. Now, maybe I'm a little too trusting, but I would like to believe that most people on here arent cheaters. Sure, there's going to be a few from time to time, but that cant be helped. I just take the good with the bad and make the most of what I have. thats just my two Irish cents though...
