Why my blitz sucks ?

I am prety good at standard time chess controles (near 1900). I was over 1700 at blitz  too.

But after I started playing longer time controles more often and playing standard chess good, I started suck at blitz.  I am only about 1500 now. Any suggestions to be better at blitz again ? Thanks.

Standard rating is more important than blitz, yes. I dont make silly blunders at longer time controles, so it's harder to win me. But at blitz I simply continue blundering and that affects my rating.

This is what the second best blitz player in the world told about blitz.

Blitz is not real chess. You are trying to get positions where you can play fast-  GM Nakamura

Obviously blitz is chess, but i do agree that it isnt good for your long game.  It instills bad habits.

With perhaps some exception of playing in specific openings to improve, I'd say (in general) standard>Blitz for the sake of improvement.

Don't play blitz chess, if you want to improve your skills at playing fast then solve like 2000 five second tactics, keep studying positional ideas and along with endgames. Eventually, these will start to be in your instinct and in result, you will play much better under fast time controls.

Ten minute games are considered blitz. Maybe try doing those for a bit to freshen up on the faster paced games. 5+5 could be good as well

How to not suck at blitz?  Presumably you know your lines?  Then all you have to do is play...a lot.  After the first 10,000 games you'll get a feel for how strong you really are.

The average blitz rating is 1103, so I don't think that a 1500 rating indicates that you "suck" at blitz. Fast chess tends to be streaky, and it is easy to get in a mental funk and go on a long losing streak. It can be painful, I know from my own experience that when this happens I almost alway find a way to lose the game. I don't see anything wrong with an amateur playing a lot of blitz or even blitz exclusively if that's what you like. My belief is that if you are not a professional player enjoyment should be your main pursuit.

Wise words here.  Part of the reason that I don't think it's particularly constructive to castigate oneself over less than expected result or rating until a player has played enough in order to emotionally know what his or her limits are.  And by that time the understanding dawns that it's not worth hurting yourself...because that is just another hindrance to your performance.

The actual rating isn't as important as the fun you're having.  If you're learning and growing as a player then it doesn't matter what the side roads are -- because it's possible to play so many games it's also possible to compress certain things that otherwise would take a lifetime to learn.

I am continually astounded at the creativity (and blindness) that players, myself included, can come up with to both win and lose games.
