Denial is a river that a lot of NERDS know about.
Also Egyptians.
Chess is recognized as a sport by the International Olympic Committee (IOC); since June 1999 FIDE has been recognized by the International Sports Federation.

I think you should go easy on him. Sarcasm doesn't translate well over the internet at any age, especially more so at 12.
But if no one can tell what I'm saying or why, conversation becomes much more fun!
Because chess isn't a sport.
To call chess a sport is a mockery of the term.
IOC says it's a sport,so that settles it.
The reason why chess hasn't been included in the Olympic Games is because this event has always been about sports of physical skill.
Chess is not a sport of physical skill, but it is recognized as a sport by the International Olympic Committee and SportAccord.
It is a mind sport. Mind sports already have their own Olympic counterpart--the World Mind Sports Games. And there has also been the annual Mind Sports Olympiad in England.
------------------------------------
I'm not sure why people continue claiming that chess isn't or cannot be a sport when there are professionals already playing it competitively. A quick look at the Wikipedia article for "Sport" should clarify about the actual meaning of the term (and why it doesn't make sense to include chess in the Summer Olympic Games).
It's not a "mind sport" or any other kind of sport. A "mind sport" is an oxymoron.
The IOC can call it what they like, they don't have the official say on words. They obviously only designated it a sport because of all the arguing and pushing from crazy chess groups over the years.
You're doing chess no favours by pretending it's a sport.
In all seriousness, we have a great event--the chess Olympics--where more than a thousand male and female players from all over the world meet for great chess, great parties, and great sex! For many chess players, particularly those from smaller countries, participating in the chess Olympics is the highlight of their chess career. For players from strong chess countries, the competition for the gold is fierce, and one look at the happy faces on the winning team tells you how important this event is to them.
By contrast, if chess became a marginal sport in the regular Olympics, only a handful of countries would be allowed to send teams, and chess would be nothing but a minor curiosity, buried under the attention given to the major Olympic sports. Our only TV coverage would be a few seconds of air time, probably accompanied by ignorant commentary.
I think the current arrangement serves the interests of the chess community best
We can go back and forth whether or not chess is a sport...but really this is the real reason why chess should not be in the olympics. Thank you Lasker1900 for saying it best

Do you know what "sport" means?
I think the dictionary knows better.
It's hilarious how people keep talking ignorance straight out of their asses instead of making a minimum effort to actually inform themselves about they're talking about.
Where is it written or what is the rationale behind the claim that only physical activities can be sports?
I already handed out references where people can get informed about the term "sport." Roughly speaking, any activity--be it a physical activity, a board game, a card game, or whatever--that is entertained on a competitive basis can be considered a sport.
sport is a physical contest - chess isnt! what part of that is hard to understand? only a total moron would want it to be part of the Olympics.
Exactly, chess tournaments are fun but nothing like a sport.
