Why only Blitz games?

I am new to chess.com and mostly playing from IPad. When I want to play the games, I see only Blitz games and the one with most time is 30 mins “Rapid”. I see most of the games, even the top level ones, determined solely on clock even with the opponent having material advantage. Where is the classic chess options, such as 120 or even 60 mins per players? Thanks for your help.

I think it’s because most people aren’t taking online chess very seriously. They have correspondence for the longer time controls but I doubt manny want to actively sit on their computer for 3 hours for a single game. Also it seems most games in the 10min plus range are not decided by the clock.

Still, that begs the question. None of the tournaments are classical chess, instead blitz bullet and rapid versions where time is given more importance than skill. There are so many games lost on time than outright resignation.

Titled players play their serious stuff in tournaments. Online is just for fun or to test out new openings, or other stuff like that.

Also strong players dislike long time controls online due to cheating. It's possible to cheat at any time control, but by playing speed games, you can avoid >99% cheaters. Most cheaters don't even know how to cheat at speed chess, and nearly all the ones who do know how don't know how to do it without getting caught.

And I'd guess the great majority of my wins were both on the board and on the clock. I know a few times I did the stupid BS thing of running out their clock when I was dead lost, but that was only a few times in ~50 games.

Because blitz games are the most fun

Quality wise, they don’t hold candles to the long format.

Slow chess is only for real life, it is a dishonor to play slow chess online.
