Why parents that chess is a waste of time

They're right, chess is just a game and the chances of making a living out of it are pretty low if you are not talented, so it would be a bad decision to set chess as your priority

Chess has been shown to help many children discover that learning, study and practice can be enjoyable, leading them to better performance in school. Still, it's only a game and for the overwhelming majority serious work must be the priority.

When was in fourth grade i was not reading any books forget about school books not even story books.i am playing chess for a year now and I have noticed that i am loving reading books chess developed a reading habit
And I may have ADHD because i am very distractive . It takes me 5 minutes to 3 words I also have cerebral plasy so I am at a higher risk of having ADHD

"Why parents that chess is a waste of time"
Chess is a waste of time if it takes time away from more important things. For a kid : 1) school / studying ; 2) sport ( the real one, made up of physical activity ); 3) social life. If you can combine these things well with chess, then chess is not a waste of time, and it can also be beneficial. IMO, as usual.
this is what George Bernard Shaw said about chess; "Chess is a foolish expedient for making idle people believe they are doing something very clever when they are only wasting their time." Depends what you're trying to achieve really... if you enjoy it it's not a waste of ://

I have cerebral plasy So i can't walk what should I do if I quit because I can't play any out door games

Chess should be used as a hobby or a competitive aspect but education comes first as you can’t get very far in chess without getting an education to increase critical thinking etc.
And they think academics should come first
