Why people insult when losing?

It happens all the time. I dont really pay too much attention to it but started noticing a pattern. Even when I accepted rematch and the oppponent won, he throws some nasty words. People dont know me or my religious and political affiliations but feel free to accuse me. In my opinion insulting someone is actually a sign of insecurity. The best way to deal with insult is silence. What are your thoughts?

I would recommend just disabling chat, unless they are actually threatening you. Then you should report it.

Before finishing comment, I realized that everything I'm saying applies specifically to 1 minute bullet chess or even the 2 minute option. Everyone else may not be referring to the same thing.

It's tough not to get overexcited in a game that is a SPEED event, so I notice my temper gets out of line sometimes. I had to train myself to relax. However, I'm not one to really throw insults in chat... I just get mad and mutter angrily to myself (lol)... I mean, that doesn't make sense anyway, how do you even have time to chat in a speed match? You have to move as fast as possible! I don't pay attention to chat, but sometimes people send messages on chat (which I completely miss) or on my page afterward, generally they are not nice...

Just ONE nice person ever to comment on my page, I commend that person. I beat them, and they were super nice and complimented me. That person has far more character than most, certainly more than me when it comes to losing. What an inspiration!

Offence is the best defense - who was it i m quoting?

In my opinion, those who are accusing you when loosing (fairly) are just those who never achieved victories in there lives by themselves.

First of all, it is obvious, you don’t appreciate the sugar in ur victory without knowing the bitterness of being defeated.

However being a gentleman/woman comes from ur brought up, so lets say, it is always the PARENTS fault!!!

Stehaufmannchen

you can silence them by blocking them

ModestAndPolite

If anyone gives me gratuitous insults in chess.com's chat I simply block them.  Life is to short to waste on unpleasant people.

Stehaufmannchen

if everybody did it,insults may end

IMtheEaterofworlds

I always reply with an LOL, no matter what..Obviously they are losing and angry so why make it worse?

Stehaufmannchen

you're cool man,I just don't feel like standing it

I don't get this problem in bullet, as I lose almost every game at that speed sad.png.

I am beginning to think that my attempts to play realistic chess in bullet games are getting in the way of results.  I'd like to abandon bullet altogether, but a rating <900 is embarrassing for a fairly strong OTB-player, so I keep playing to try to get back to the 1200 starting line ... and lose again, and my rating falls even further.

How many more of you guys out there are 1900+ OTB and <1000 at bullet

Some players insult when they win. Others insult when they lose.

I don't see the point of it, either way. Who gets offended and angry over a board game? The whole point of it, at least for me, is to enjoy a game for fun.

The silliest, to me, is when players gloat when they win.

Yes, congrats—you out-chessed me. But all that proves is that you're an even bigger nerd than I am. :P
