Why play if...

Your going to resign after the 1st move? Why do people do that. If you don't want to play then don't accept the offer to play. I had someone start the online game, we both made our opening moves, the when i go to make my 2nd move it turns out my opponent resigned. Very rude if you ask me. Plus I hate cheap wins like that.

i guess people dnt like to play against ur openingLaughing

I've seen that before.  One guy had numerous games resigned after two or three moves.   If you didn't want to play, it'd make more sense to abort the game after one move instead of resigning.

It would be nice if in the the person's profile or in the filters, you could see how many games a person has played under 5 moves.

Anticiv

Do you play some junk first move?  I happily abort games that start 1.a4 or 1.f3 or anything like that.

I enjoy a good game of chess, but have no interest in wasting time or mental energy against somebody who hasn't got a clue what they're doing.

If you're opening 1.e4 and they're aborting, I have no idea what the deal is, unless they got automatically matched up by the filter, and didn't want to play somebody of your rating, whatever that may be.

The ones I've seen (from a member who closed their account), it was a standard opening, usually e4 and so on, but two or three moves into it, they resigned.  Can't figure that out.  Why waste time even starting the game?  There must have been about 20-30 or more games like that.

I wonder whether some of these folks intended to play a full game but were then interrupted by something that required their immediate attention--a crying infant, say. Then they thought it more considerate to resign than simply to walk away.

That probably doesn't account for all of them, but it is a possibility.

I think from now on when I start a game I get an opponent, I will check his games & if I see a lot of games under 5 moves, I will abort the game.

....won't it be much quicker to just play the game until it's aborted?

They don't abort. They either resign or let their time run out, & you get a cheap win which really wasn't earned.

The ones I'm referring to are online games, so that's not the case here.

Does it matter? Play a few more games, and the rating will be correct again. You could give me a rating of 3000, and not many games later my rating would be back to where it should be.

mschosting

They can either do that because they dont like  your opening :) Or  they just wanted to lower their rating

Maybe your opponent's spouse started yelling, "take out the garbage." Maybe your opponent had an unexpected visitor. Maybe your opponent had a plumbing emergency. Let's not make rash judgements.

This was an 5 day setting online turn based game, not a live game. There's no good excuse for this.

I play chess with any body and no matter what the rank is, they abort or continue the game won't bother me, even when they are saying bad things in the chat room. All i want is to play chess and try to get the fun from it without any stress.
